I went to a show with my friend Dacen in BCS so here's the details!!
This was only my second show in BCS. I threw up at the last one after going a little bit too hard in the pit with only shitty fast food in my stomach. Great news: I did NOT throw up this time. But anyways, it was so awesome. From The Threshold opened and I can't even put into words how heavily I fucked with them, man. It's a two-piece, with Luke on drums and vocals and Brandon on guitar. Luke's drumming was great (Dacen can attest to this, he was a big fan) and I liked the vocals a lot. I also really liked the guitar. It was kinda all over the place in a really, really good way. One song, the guitar had a sort of Red Hot Chili Peppers vibe to it? And another, a pop punk vibe. Dacen and I talked to Luke after his set and he was super nice! I want to get FTH to play a show in Waco, because the BCS crowd is so dead... These guys deserve a better pit.
Gobblinz played next. This is the band whose set I threw up during last time XD. (Note: I didn't throw up in the pit. I feel like I should specify that. I did it outside, trust.) I've seen them twice before but this set was my favorite. They opened with a Woody Guthrie cover - not a genreswap; they just played a country song before going back to their usual sludge metal. Sick as fuck. My favorite song they played was "Tony", a song about killing your boss (Fuck Tony!). It reminded me of Swerved By Blondes (SLC pop punk band). I moshed a lot, headbanged a lot, two-stepped a lot. What's new?
Also: there was this one guy in the pit who kinda looked like a guy I went to high school with but if he was punk. He was also tearing up the pit with me so respect to that guy, hell yeah.
The last band was Alien Acid, led by my friend(? Instagram mutual, more like) Angel. Holy shit. So fucking good. Riot grrrl! REAL RIOT GRRRL! I've been wanting to see a riot grrrl band for fucking ever! I loved it so much that on the way home, I turned to Dacen and was like: "Okay. We HAVE to start a fucking riot grrrl band." Vocals were whiny as shit and I loved them. They opened with a cover of Soundgarden's song "Gun". One of their songs reminded me of a Dead Kennedys song but I could not for the life of me remember which one. I loved all of it, the whole set. Angel is super nice, too! I'm meeting up with her today to give her copies of my zine.
My ears rang for 2 days after this show and I'm still sore but it was a lot of fun. GO TO YOUR LOCAL PUNK SHOWS!!
