The Boss DS-2 and John Frusciante’s Sound
The Boss DS-2 feels like a peculiar pedal to me, much like John Frusciante’s iconic sound. It can be confusing because I’ve found many configurations online, but they heavily depend on the gear you’re using. This means you’ll have to experiment with the controls to find the perfect settings, which can be quite frustrating.
The setup I use is pretty close to the original sound (or so I think). I’m using a Fender ’65 Twin Reverb amplifier with the following settings: Bass: 5-6, Mid: 5, Treble: 7, Gain: 7-8. For the cab, I’m using a Marshall 1960V30. As for the pedal, my settings are: Level: 5-7, Tone: 9, Gain: 6, always in Turbo Mode 2.
