PRIMARY TECHNIQUES FOR PERFORMATIVE VIEWING
by G. Hardman
1. Have regular back-and-forth conversation with a public art piece - This does not mean to literally go out and talk to a painting, however if you find yourself speaking out loud as a means of responding to art, it's not entirely unexpected. Stand silently and allow the art to speak to you, then carefully consider your response. Repeat forever.
2. Explore romantic/sexual feelings toward a public work of art - It's obvious that artwork with inherently sexual themes can elicit this response effortlessly, however some pieces layer sexuality underneath several other heavier themes. Attempt to find the things that are arousing or sexually explicit about a particular artwork that is presented as seemingly sterile or sexless. Consider these findings with vigor.
3. Develop obsessive fixation on public works of art - Fixate upon a piece of art until it harms you and those around you. Repeat as necessary. Consider the long and short-term effects of this.
4. Destroy a piece of public art -
This can mean literally or figuratively. Possibly even both. Carefully consider the effects this will have.
