Why I'm Team Edward (+ Why Team Jacob Concerns Me /hj)

I quickly want to say that I'm basing most of my opinion on the movies, as I've never been able to read all of the books. I think my points will still ring true as I've seen many people explain how book Jacob was arguable SO MUCH WORSE than movie Jacob, which already says everything I need to know lol. This whole post is a light-hearted opinion piece, so please don't insult my judgement or take anything I say as an attack! <3

As a Twilight fan, one of the most concerning things I keep seeing is the sheer amount of people who've watched all of the movies and/or read all of the books and think Bella should've ended up with Jacob instead of Edward. I very much believe that most of the people that hold that opinion didn't actually pay attention to the plot and are basing their opinions on what they personally would've done in Bella's position, which I can understand, but I think that when it comes to this debate it's more important to actually understand Bella's character as well as Edward's and Jacob's. I'm going to list some reasons and examples of why Jacob was not a good fit for Bella, as well as some rebuttals to Team Jacob arguments I constantly see. 

1. Literally all of Breaking Dawn Part 2. 

I don't think I need to explain this one, as I think we all hold the same opinion on Jacob imprinting on Renesmee (yes, Jacob, you did imprint on her in that way, we all saw Alice's vision and literally every other instance of imprinting throughout the Saga. YOU'RE NOT SLICK!).

2. Jacob never imprinted on Bella.

To go along with the last point, Jacob was only attracted to/obsessed with Bella because of Renesmee. I think a lot of people forget about the part in BDP2 where he literally said exactly that. Not to mention, could you imagine if Bella ended up with Jacob and he imprinted on someone else? Or if he never imprinted at all? I genuinely don't think they would've ever worked out long-term.

3. He was incredibly toxic

NOW HEAR ME OUT!! I know the consensus is that both Edward and Jacob were creepy and obsessive. HOWEVER, Bella actually matched Edward's freak when it comes to creepy and obsessive. Like, she actually reciprocated those feelings and behaviors and liked Edward's creepiness and protective/obsessive behaviors and felt/did the same. They were obsessed with each other. Bella only showed any kind of interest in Jacob because she was essentially using Jacob to get over Edward (which is incredibly fucked up). I think the key difference between Edward's obsession and Jacob's obsession was that Edward heavily valued Bella's consent whereas Jacob wouldn't be satisfied with an answer other than "yes". Bella and Edward were far more compatible overall because at the end of the day Edward actually respected her, her opinions, her decisions, and her desires. Jacob always made assumptions based on what he thought was best for Bella.

4. Literal. Assault.

Jacob forcefully kissed Bella without her consent because she was choosing Edward over him. Not to mention, I heard he does worse in the books. Not entirely sure if that's true, but regardless I don't fuck with forced ANYTHING. Him kissing Bella paired with the constant begging and manipulation from him completely turned me off to considering him as a good fit for Bella. He quite honestly gave me the ick, and despite the fact that Bella was absolutely in the wrong for leading Jacob on for a while and using him to get over/summon Edward, I hoped the entire time that she would make the right decision.

5. "Bella wouldn't have had to change for Jacob!"/Jacob wanted Bella "as is".

This whole argument confuses the fuck out of me because Edward spent almost the entire Saga practically begging Bella not to change. He wanted her to life the full life that he never got to live. Literally all of Jacob's reasoning behind why Bella should've been with him was based on how he wasn't like Edward, likely because he was convinced that Edward wanted Bella to change herself for him. Additionally, I think a lot of people forget about the part at the end of either NM or Eclipse where Bella talked about how choosing Jacob would mean remaining as she was, which she didn't want. She felt the most like herself with Edward in Edward's world. She hated who she was presently, and she knew Jacob wouldn't have given her the freedom to be who she truly was meant to be had she stayed with him.

I know I probably seem biased, as I'm quite literally obsessed with all things vampire, but if you were to ask me who my favorite character was I would immediately tell you Carlisle, Alice, or Charlie. I think they're all infinitely better than Edward 🤭 no tea no shade lol.
