I watched Saltburn yesterday and after finishing it and watching halfway through a video essay, I decided to write a small review about it. Consider this a stream of consciousness, I'm not really going to polish this
==Listening to Here, There and Everywhere while writing this :p==
Okay so first things first, I think that the hype that came out from this film made me think it'd be better than expected but it fell short. The famous bathroom scene was very underwhelming. Yeah it was a bit gross but the way people were talking about it on TikTok last year you'd think it's something crazy.
I enjoyed the visuals/color grading. Mainly because that's what the film is all about, shots and compositions meant to be seen through Tumblr or something. When I first pressed play, I thought that the 4:3 aspect ration was meant for something but I guess it's just for the aforementioned aesthetics.
The plot itself was a bit confusing. //Spoilers// When we are shown the way Oliver executes each of his acts, we still lack a clear why. Why did he lie about his background, why does he want their riches? I don't think this is well articulated at any point in the film. After watching a video essay, turns out that the story is poorly copied from The Talented Mr. Ripley, a film I haven't watched so I don't really have much to say about that.
Anyways, ignoring the pretty movie stills, and Jacob Elordi scenes meant to appear in an edit, the movie falls very short from what I expected it to be.
