WHAT DOES "GAY DEATH" MEAN?

I have received several messages of concern and curiosity regarding the band name's meaning and whether or not it is intended to wish violence or death upon gay people.

The short answer is "no" -- furthermore, I am a gay man who has reached his 30s; which only in recent times doesn't seem to be an accomplishment anymore. Yet how are we still reviled by the image of the creepy, undesirable, aging gay man? Where did that even come from? They didn't exist up until not long ago.

We will never know the true body count of the AIDS crisis of the 80's and 90's. Gay people rarely have elders or role models to look up to, and certainly no consistent example by which to lead young gay people in the ever-evolving social climate of modern times. We as young queer people walked a path paved with strife, blood, and loss by people who were largely forgotten about by history.

Make no mistake, gay hate is very real and in many countries around the world still punishable by death. I would not wish my worst enemy to be put to death because of the gender of the person they loved. Gay men above 30 are still seen as otherworldly outsiders because nobody knows that we still exist. Despite everything, we stopped wasting away and started outliving the ones that came before us. And now that we're here, we are finding that there's no place for us except for the one of our own making. Our painful moment of self-creation being our true birthday, we find ourselves in a world we never expected to live to see. Because of that, this band is GAY DEATH. In short, it's music for people who don't exist.
