somwhere in alternative universe: minecraft

somewhere in alternative universe, Microsoft go bankrupt and sell off their assets to other companies. and in this dire time, the stream of the river of fate brought Mojang to the hands of Valve, under supervision of our lord Gabe Newell himself (above is exaggerated for the sake of a joke).

suddenly Minecraft appears on Steam, both Bedrock and Java. Java doing well on itself, thus it just drops the Java Edition branding and further only uses the edition name for disambiguation in the Steam Library. Java overall remains untouched and completely is under Mojang Stockholm control, pretty sure Valve would leave modding as is as well - not that they can integrate Steam into a Java application as easily, plus modding community for Java is pretty strong on its own

but Bedrock? that gets a facelift. first, all the weird floatiness inherited from Legacy Pocket Edition codebase be gone, more parity with Java where it makes sense, and preferrably that should be true vice versa too. gone is the dreaded Marketplace button, and now a proud and beautiful Workshop button takes its place. what it does? opens Steam Overlay with the Minecraft Steam Workshop/Community page! Bedrock sure will benefit from Workshop support instead of the Marketplace~ achievements now are tied to Steam, and the game gets launched from Steam as well. and of course, more money thrown in to fix the damn bugs!

and thus, in this universe despite there still being two versions of minecraft, none of them tries to overshadow the other, one has strong community mod support, another has strong backing in form of Steam Workshop!~ and of course, another game joining the most popular game storefront/launcher
