Writing for Games Pt. 0

BD is going to be my first game and my dream project too!

Initially, I had this idea of making a game with someone else, but we really didn't work hard on it (like, at all). We just had the idea of making a horror game set in a metro (very original). In the end, we parted ways, and that marked me forever. I knew I had to express my feelings and hopefully comfort someone, just like many games have comforted me.

I've been writing as a hobby for a few years now, but I've never actually finished a story. So (hopefully), this will be the first one I complete!

Inspirations

My biggest inspirations, of course, come from the games I play, like Silent Hill 2, Signalis, and even Disco Elysium! Inspiration can truly come from anywhere, but my biggest source is my dreams.

I've been having nightmares non-stop for three months now and have been keeping a dream diary (or... a nightmare diary). Some days it's hard to even get up because of the nightmares, but...

Use your feelings!

I don't let those feelings go to waste. Sometimes I mix how I was feeling with the dream I had, and it turns into a great idea. I don't remember where I saw this, but a movie director once said, "You can't make horror if you're not scared." Even if all you feel is anger or hopelessness, hold onto it and turn it into something amazing! (A song that helped me realize this is Zetsubou-cho Pride. If you listen to it, make sure to look up the lyrics!)

Type of Writers

You don't need to plan a full story from the beginning. I only had the barebones concept for BD, and it has evolved over the years. I've just been fitting the story as best as I can, while making sure to respect the rules of my world (in this case, it's set in the 1900s with retro-futurist technology and paranormal elements). I don't know if this is the best way to write, but so far, I like how the story is going. I even have one ending! (Though I may have zoned out at school a little too hard to figure it out...)

(Disclaimer)
I don't know what I'm doing.
