An Album a Week 2025

Been a little slow on this recently - might leave these blank or update them if i listen to multiple albums within a future week!

March 16-22:  OK Computer - Radiohead

  • An older album, but I decided to listen to it in it's entirety this week. Another beautifully composed album for the list!
  • I think my favorite from this one will always be "Let Down," the raw emotion and buildup of this song along with the lyrics just will always have such a profound place in my heart. The motif of growing wings and changing through life has been hitting a lot recently as I'm graduating soon and starting college. Thinking of developing who I am and becoming myself and listening to this album has really helped to change my perspective on life.
  • I think this album might be radioheads best (I know maybe crazy opinion) but I believe this one is just more personal and perspective, while others have moreso just standout songs rather than the albums as a whole being impactful.

March 9-15: Give Up - The Postal Service

  • Where do I even start with this album oh my goodness. I had been obsessed with "Such Great Heights" when I was in middle school, listening on my brothers ipod as we would walk home from school every day. But recently I heard "Clark Gable" on my tiktok fyp and decided to listen to the whole album.
  • This album is genuinely one of the most beautiful art projects I've found in so long. The fact that the name of the group is based on the literal fact they sent these samples and songs to each other in 2001 and created such an emotional album about love and society and the world is so beautiful to me I cant really describe it properly.
  • I wish I had listened to this album sooner because "The District Sleeps Alone Tonight" actually hits pretty close to home for me and a breakup I had a few months back. I'm definitely grateful that I've listened to it now however.
  • I talked with my mom about it too which helped me feel a little closer with her too :3

March 2-8:

February 23- March 1: Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

  • Not too much to say personally for this album, I think its definitely considered a classic in the edm genre which was why i wanted to finally decide to listen to it. With "Vanished" and "Crimewave" being so popular I think it makes me a little sad since I honestly liked more of the smaller songs on this album, but i think that it was a really good starting point for a lot of people to get into this genre of music <3

February 16-22:

February 9-15:

February 2-8: When We Were Friends - The Backseat Lovers

  • Ok I know this is an album I've already listened to but I had it on LOOP this whole week and I couldn't stop thinking about it. This album was very important to me during a few really hard times in my life, and a lot of the lyrics really helped me get through these times. It brought me closer with others and helped keep me in a better mood (yes listening to sad music actually keeps you sad!! hard thing to learn)
  • THE GUITAR in this album is genuinely insane. As someone who's been learning guitar for the last 2 years some of the riffs in these songs are so impressive its crazy. The skill it takes is one of my favorite things about this album just because it really helps me appreciate this kind of music and talent that people have.
  • The subjects of each of these songs also hits home in a way not many other songs do, I found myself relating a lot to this album during a breakup of mine that really messed with me, but knowing that there were so many other people out there who related to the same situations really helped to keep me grounded in my mind and stay in touch with my life after. While I have cried many a time to "Olivia" and "Watch Your Mouth", I think those moments are what helped solidify this album being one of my favorites of all time <3

January 26-Feb 1: Your Arms Are My Cocoon - Your Arms Are My Cocoon

  • This Ep reminded me a lot of III by foxtails - its a quiet kind of screamo that I haven't been able to find in a really long time. The instrumentals are very soft and math rocky with some techno influences? but the lyrics are just beautiful muffled unclean style that just hits so hard. The actual lyricism is so pretty too but i think the instrumental is what made me fall in love with this ep.
  • I think its really good music to just play in the background while doing homework or just spacing out, it keeps you in place but still has this foreground vibe with how the lyrics are quieter that is so relaxing. Almost reminded me of those old "sitting in a bathroom at a party" videos that were popular a few years ago that TOTALLY took me back. (i used to be obsessed with those kinds of videos so this was very nostalgic :3)

January 19-25: A Complete Unknown Soundtrack - Timothee Chalamet, Monica Barbaro, etc.

  • Sorry this is late! I had been so busy this last week but i decided to catch up today by listening to the Complete Unknown Soundtrack for my album this week <3 In case you don't know, I have a bit of an obsession with Timothee Chalamet,  and after watching his SNL episode on saturday, i knew his actual performance of Bob Dylan was perfect just from the 3 song he performed there
  • Spoiler: I was right. This soundtrack is genuinely so amazing, I was shocked with how similar he sounds to Dylan, and how true he kept to his original sound. Of course the quality is better, but the raw vocals sound so similar to each other it is truly amazing. You can really tell how much effort Chalamet but into studying Dylan's style for the last few years, and while I haven't seen the movie yet, I know his acting will be phenomenal as always!! Barbaro also did SUCH a fantastic job with playing Joan Baez and GOD their performance of "It ain't me babe" I think is my favorite off the movie. The raw emotion in their voices portrays Baez and Dylan's perspectives from the song so beautifully, I even started to learn how to play it on guitar myself!
  • My conclusion is go see A Complete Unknown, wear ur leather jacket and go be a menace to ur situationship <3

January 12-18: Downtown Battle Mountain - Dance Gavin Dance

  • Ok I've been a HUGE dgd fan for a long time now BUT ive never actually listened to their first album all the way through, so i figured what better time than now with this project of mine!
  • This album i think will always have a very special place in my heart, along with its sequel(?) dbm2 (aka my favorite album by them) The intro to this album leading into And I Told Them I Invented Times New Roman was one id never heard before, and it was genuinely euphoric. the intense vocals from John Mess and the beauty that is Jonny Craigs voice (we dont like him but DAMN can that man sing) was one of my favorite parts of this album, along with the INSANE guitar skills of Will Swan that have carried this band to where it is now. The almost math rock influence for his guitar riffs makes the whole album come together so smoothly despite its hardcore and screamo influences. I think The Backwards Pumpkin Song will always be my favorite off this album because of that, because to me its their perfect blend of all the loveable qualities their music brings into the post hardcore scene. Genuinely, this album and band have been a huge staple in my life over the years, and i definieely recommend listening to this and the sequal album Downtown Battle Mountain II

January 5-11: III - foxtails

  • Originally i just saw the song Every Window in Alcatraz Has a View of San Francisco (II) on my for you page, but the snip i heard immediately convinced me to listen to the whole album
  • Another very emotional album, with a pretty unique sound. It has almost math rock or shoegaze inspired instrumentals, with amazing vocals ranging from a beautiful soft comfort to a heart wrenching screamo influence throughout the whole album. The different struggles displayed in this album of difficulties with self esteem and acceptance, emotional abuse, avoidance, and suicidal ideation. Every verse can almost be seen as its own small poem, as every lyric was chosen so specifically and with such care for this album to be made. This album shows such a relatable and validating expression of how you feel and think while being in an abusive relationship - romantic or not. With references to the singers father while also referring to their lover, it's clear that this is about multiple forms of abuse, and it shows such a heartbreaking but almost comforting reaction to it all, especially being someone who's been in many abusive relationships throughout my own life.

January 1-4: You'd Prefer an Astronaut - Hum

  • I found the song Stars from this album last year and fell in love with it, so I decided this should be my first one to cover!
  • This album is one of the best "break-up" albums ive listened to in a long time - and ive heard a lot. It covers so many sides to a dooming relationship, showing and establishing both the highs and lowest lows of it, only to have 2 of the most bittersweet ending songs to a story of such passion. The singer is able to show just how much he cares for his lover, while still showing what problems they both have. She is struggling throughout the whole album with depression, worthlessness and possible drug use, while He is permissive and willing to get rid of himself just for her sake. It leads to anger and sadness, while showing the true desperation that many people will go through in these kinds of relationships.
