"Ooh I'm so different" trends

Since Christmas just passed, there's been a trend showcasing what people got for Christmas. They'll have one caption line be like ""I got a dyson and lululemon"" and then second line be like "shut up this is what I got for Christmas". It's kind of hard to explain, but if you know what I'm talking about, then you know what I'm talking about. This obviously isn't the first trend like it, but it still annoys me to no end. As much as I dislike over consumerism and people purchasing stuff just because it's trending or popular, I don't think it's cool to put those people down. Yeah, cool, you got a hotdog roller for Christmas (actual example). We all know you aren't going to use that hotdog roller, you just want to be different and quirky or whatever. And you're part of the over consumerism problem now, too because you obviously aren't going to use that. I think people should just get what actually makes them happy instead of worrying about being on trend or seeming unique. Is it really worth it if your christmas present is thrown away once it's no longer on trend or is just going to sit on a shelf, gathering dust?
