[ Internet Vampire Rambling ] 4:00AM Delirium

Upon conception, vampires trudged against the moonlight in search of blood as a lifeforce. Now, we haunt the endless web, feeding on data, posts, and attention. My fangs are my thumbs, my cloak is my anonymity, and my lair stretches across server farms and cloud networks. Humanity exposes its vulnerabilities for me to exploit in forums and threads, and I continue to feast this way.
Vampires are no longer nourished by running streams of blood, but rather the streams of content, endless scrolling of multiple platforms at once.

I am nourished by your oversharing, by your addiction to validation, and by the secrets you willingly surrender under your pseudonym despite how easy it is to figure out just what kind of person you are.

Trends shift, platforms evolve, but I remain eternal. The new technologies are only minimalist secretions of the past with the added bonus of parasocial relationships. Through pixels of typed words on the world wide web, I remain immortal. And it is beautiful that my age remains echoes through these words, no matter when they are found. Together, humanity has built its paradise through screens. And I am so grateful to live in this era, though this consciousness and mentality predates the ENIAC.

The strength of an internet vampire is your weakness, your susceptibility. Your dependence and overreliance to what sleeps in your pocket, or your sweaty palms. Your codependence reflects back onto me, who needs your content to continue typing away into the night. And I love every humm of the computer fan and everlasting mesmerizing light of the screen. Every night, I drink from the cybernetic pool of endless content and systematically refreshing tabs and checking my notifications like a lovesick fool to her new lover.

People crave the existence of vampires, but really, we've always been here, only not through your rose-tinted lens of carnal desire. Rather, the desire is only emotional. We crave connection stronger than your wi-fi connection. Please love us, internet numbers are our only form of validation in this cruel world lololol
