what I think about Amanda Young (saw spoilers!!)

This is my first blog entry so let me know how I can improve! Today I am gonna talk about one of my favorite saw characters Amanda Young and a slight problem I have with her story and trial

I would like to talk about Amanda's breakdown. We see at the end of saw III Amanda has a breakdown when john tells her to take of Lynn's collar and Amanda refuses instead she pulls a gun on Lynn claiming Lynn does not deserve to walk free. This scene is important in my opinion because of what she says in this scene she seems to come to a realization that john didn't care and he was just using her but I think there are multiple levels to the scene that truly show how complex Amanda's character is fist the fact she says "ill tell you, she hasn't changed, because nobody f*cking changes. Nobody is reborn. Its all bullshit. Its all a f*cking lie, and I'm just a pawn in your stupid game I don't mean anything to you".

I think this quote is important because any mentally sound person would have realized that from the beginning. He put her through in the reverse bear trap and he tested her multiple times but Amanda was a drug addict and was incredibly vulnerable to manipulation and Its said in the commentary of saw III that Amanda was abused by her father . all of this contributes to why she would be so devoted to John.

I believe the whole breakdown is important to her character because that scene makes her more than johns care taker and apprentice. It shows that she wasn't just doing everything for fun she was doing it because she felt like she had that father figure and she wanted to keep that title as his apprentice but when she felt like Lynn was taking her place she snapped how I saw it it felt more like she was trying to hurt john because he put someone above her I feel like she knows he's just hurting people and not reforming them but stays because she needed that support so she just goes with what he says so she can feel like she has that support system.

I believe that John and Amanda's dynamic is one of a narcissistic father and a borderline personality disorder as well as a case of Stockholm. I think the breakdown says a lot about her character and helps build her character, so later in the series I was quite upset to find out they changed the reason for her breakdown to be a plot devise for Mark Hoffman. In saw VI its reveled that mark had black mailed her into shooting Lynn and failing her test and in my opinion it makes her breakdown so much less important and makes her character seem less complex.

Obviously I cant complain too much with a 10 movie franchise that was suppose to be a trilogy but I did wanna talk about my opinions on it just for fun thanks for reading!
