Observation Log: VGh1cnNkYXkgTm92ZW1iZXIgMjQgMTk2MA

Facility: REDACTED - BLDG13 Observation Director: Dr. Parrasito
Subject: TXl0aMO4cw Classification: BCRPHHIDL4SCL1
Incident No.: Tk9WMjQxOTYwRVNDQVBFMQ

Incident Report:

Between 1200 and 1215 today, a routine check was done on SUBJECT TXl0aMO4cw where it was found out that they had escaped through one of the shattered observation windows in their cell. The security cameras were checked and Emergency Protocol RVNDQVBF was enacted. Then, between 1700 and 1730, SUBJECT TXl0aMO4cw was spotted walking through the main halls of [FACILITY] carrying an object that was later identified as a large turkey carcass. Security cameras along the perimeter of the building were checked and it was determined that SUBJECT TXl0aMO4cw could not spotted approaching or even entering the building. [OBSERVATION DIRECTOR] was contacted after Emergency Protocol RVNDQVBF was enacted - as part of process - and, once the Subject was apprehended and re-contained, commenced and emergency observation session following the Subject's containment. The Observation Session notes from the day have been added to this report for further details.

Observation Session Notes: Thurs. 24 Nov 1960
Observation Conducted By: Dr. Parrasito, Bldg 13 Observation Director

Happy Thanksgiving! Today is normally a day that people spend with their friends and family surrounded by gratitude and good food, but today my team and I spent our holiday in lockdown at Cursed Building 13 due to the Subject escaping before their midday routine check in. I am unsure how the Møth managed to get out, but even stranger is how they managed to get back in.

Yes, you read that right: The Møth escaped...but they came back.

This is vital as for the past 5 years, the Subject - known to my team and myself as The Møth - has not made any attempt to escape the facility save for the attempt made their first day here. Yet, today of all days, they chose to escape. Well, it's more that they were given an opportunity to leave and they took it. And even stranger is that they chose to come back - albeit with an addition that many thought horrifying - but still: They chose to return.

Yet, even stranger - which is hard to conceive when speaking about the creature in general - were the events leading to their escape as well as their reasoning for returning. Now, there is a chance that their reasoning could be misunderstood as the Møth has only been speaking to us in English for the past two and a half years. And their grasp of speech is that of a young child - speaking mostly in fractured sentences or with just one word.

However, I found it important to try and push them to get to the bottom of this. Especially because of how long they were gone from the facility and even more so that they were violent to another creature in the process.

During the emergency Observation Session - of course, after they were checked and confined, I first asked them about the elephant - well, turkey - in the room. I first asked them about the turkey, seeing if they knew what it was. The Møth surprised me by responding with their affirmative noise - a sound similar to a mix of a cat's chirp and a cicada's trill. They knew what a turkey was, even confirming that they understood that killing the thing was bad with another chirp. Finally, I asked them why they brought it back - noting to them that in the past, humans would only bring back dead game birds to for food. The Møth nodded - their black hair shifting and waving around their face as though in water (another sign of good/positive emotions). With a fried, almost parched voice they pointed to the window behind me.

The Møth

Food. Food for family. Give...thanks...with....turkey.

It was truly fascinating. After speaking with my team, we realized that the Møth had brought the turkey as they had heard the team speaking about Thanksgiving and how they were going to be spending the holiday with their families. And the only thing that stuck with them is the concept of family giving thanks around a turkey on the table (I blame Stanley for showing them that Norman Rockwell print postcard). So, to give the team a "real" Thanksgiving...they killed and brought the dead turkey for us to eat together as a family.

Which...means the Møth considers us a part of their familial structure - leading me to realize that we might be dealing with something more than an insect-human hybrid physically, but also in mentally and emotionally. This needs further study: what is a familial structure to them? how do they quantify relationships? can they love? do they love? if they are able to wrap their mind around the concept of Thanksgiving, what else can they be taught?

The fact that they revealed their shapeshifting abilities to us within the first few months of captivity and study - creating and iterating on their "human" appearance since then - in order to "fit in" and not scare the research team was, what I thought, was the epitome of their sentient thought. But now I see that it was just the beginning...or maybe the beginning of our understanding of their capabilities.

After asking about their escapades outside, I ended the session with asking the Møth about their escape. How they were able to get out of their cell without detection and why the windows in their cell were shattered. The Møth looked at me confused, pointing to the windows in the current room we were in and miming an explosion. I nodded in agreement, pushing them again with the questions about their escape. The responses were fractured, but were interesting and lead me to raise them to leadership immediately following the session.

Q: How did you escape your room, Møth?
The Møth

Angel. She broke first glass. We broke second glass when go through to tree place.

Q: Go through? Do you mean you went through the glass and out the door? Or like the book we read together?
The Møth

Like Alice book! But second glass broke - not like in book.

Q: Interesting - You said this being was an angel? What did the angel look like?
The Møth

.....like........a clown?
