Happy music on horror/action scenes is overused on modern media 😭 (dont cancel me!!)

So I finally got to watch and understood the hype with that Netflix "Squid Game" series and while it was cool at the first few minutes of the show... well, skip to maybe the part where the first game finally shows up and of course, like many modern movies of our time, it plays some danceable jazz tune to a scene where people are getting unalived.

Yeah.

Same thing happened with M3gan, which was genuinely a nice horror movie. Villain gurl dancing as she chases some poor victims to death. And like probably one or more Marvel movies where action scenes are being played with Mr. Blue Sky loudly playing at the background.

I mean, it's becoming a really common and often used trope lately with newer movies, and I'm starting to see a pattern of cynical protagonists and making light of serious situation. It was interesting and unique at first, but I'm seeing it everywhere now that it just leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

I remember when I was a kid, when I grew up with movies made in the 80s, 90s and 2000s where action scenes were legitimately serious and had orchestral themes backing them up, or horror movies with suspense and a great feeling of dread. I live for those things. But now, it's either everyone grew up to be so bitter or they don't take things as seriously anymore.

Heck, at one of the newer Scream films where the teen protagonists were just laughing about death (sOMEONE JUST DIED IN THEIR NEIGHBORHOOD!) and they're laughing about it?? And dont get me started on good characters dying or not like trying harder to defend themselves from the k*ller villain?

I guess this is why I barely watch new movies these days unless it has a story that genuinely interests me aside from it being so popular or widely talked about on the Internet or by my relatives. Same with music.

And nowadays I'd rather delve into hours of researching movies or shows with tropes that I like seeing, regardless if it's AAA or a B-movie or low budget or whatever, because the story and characters are what matters to me. Like those cool East Asian shows I haven't watched and have stockpiled for over a year or rewatching those good old shows from the 2000s, even if sadly, some of the themes there haven't aged so well...

Just my few cents, everyone. I'm sorry if I have offended any of you, and I just want to get this out of my chest. Regardless, I'm happy for people who found their place in newer media and genuinely like them, but sadly, some of it is not for me.
