Voivod are one of the weirdest band out there, due to their "Sci-fi/Psych/Prog Thrash Metal" sound that you can hear in their classic albums, like "War and Pain", "Rrroooaaarrr", "Killing Technology", "Dimension Hatross", "Nothingface" and the recent "The Wake".
Their last record, "Synchro Anarchy", follows this sound aswell, and sounds really good.
But.
Not everyone is aware of their most "extreme" era, when they released the albums with Eric Forest (vocals, bass).
The albums are "Negatron" and "Phobos", the one i decided to share.
Phobos is really Heavy and dark, all the weird elements are there but also you can hear a little bit of Death/Black Metal and a sort of Industrial vibe to it.
Usually their music is weird af, but also funny, this record is really horrorish and serious, with monolitic and groovy riffs blended with a metallic sound.
It feels like you're alone inside a spaceship with no fuel and "something" is hunting you, you're hidden somewhere but you know sooner or later you'll die.
This is the exact feeling i have while listening to this masterpiece, i can hear the metallic walls scratching, i can hear footsteps, i can feel the aseptic enviroment slowly decading.
I have one particular song in mind while writing this "Neutrino".
That track creeps me out, it's Heavy and mechanical.
The whole record is just on another level, surely in my top 3 Voivod records.
Not an easy listen, but a rewarding one.
