Why I Joined SpaceHey

I guess my story isn't that different from other people on here. I talked about it on one of my posts on my Substack, but the crux of it is that social media just isn't fun anymore--or at least mainstream social media isn't.

But honestly, even the new alternative versions that are copies of the mainstream platforms don't do anything for me because they still rely on doomscrolling at the end of the day. I'm sick of doomscrolling. SpaceHey is a breath of fresh air to be honest.

Another reason why I'm enjoying this space is because it fosters creativity. People can tweak their profiles and express themselves however they want. You can feel the more "human" side of people on here and that's what I like. It feels almost...cozy?

Then there's also the nostalgia factor. I'm from 1995, so I was too young to remember the 90s, but I did get to experience some of the leftovers of the old internet that still lingered throughout the 2000s. SpaceHey brought a lot of that and I love it. I never had MySpace back in the day and I don't think it was big in my country, but a lot of the elements you could found there were ubiquitous in other parts of the internet and social media, so it's been nice to go back to those sources when trying to look for stuff to decorate my profile.

Going back to those old websites is like entering a room you haven't stepped into in years, but finding most things where you left them. It's kinda bittersweet.

So, to wrap this up cause I don't want to ramble too much on this topic, I decided to stay away from most other platforms and deleted every old account I had. I still check Tumblr and Pinterest from time to time, and I still watch plenty of YouTube in my free time, But I don't see myself ever going back to the likes of Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, etc; unless I really have to go back for some reason.

I hope we'll get to see a resurgence of online environments like SpaceHey in the future. I think it's past time for modern-style social media to die out.
