my year, in summary *ੈ✩‧₊˚ ⋆✴︎˚｡⋆

happy new year's eve, everyone!!

jeez, 2024 was a wild ride for me... in all honesty, not my best year! not my best year at all

but that doesn't mean wild and amazing things didn't happen!! so, i'm gonna use this blog to reflect on my year and sorta give you a look into my year!!

january through may, i was finishing up my last ever semester of high school! i can't say that i had a whole heck of a lot of fun, but it was pretty alright. my favorite memories of my last semester are probably prom!!! which was surprisingly awesome!! and my new english teacher, she was just the absolute kindest human being. and we were both tumblr kids... so she understood me, on a very hilarious level. oh, and our paleo-archaeology / evolution unit in my biology class!! my bio teacher was a dr (!!!) so she gave me a lot of inspiration to pursue higher ed, and i got to make friends with a model skull during that unit. and my friends FINALLY started to understand what my degree would end up entailing, haha!! we also did a pheromones unit in that class and we learned who the alpha male in our class was !!! 

i miss high school so much!! all my friends have scattered to the winds and i miss my teachers :( 

in march i turned 18! since becoming an adult... absolutely nothing has changed except i had to give the government proof of income so that my mom could keep qualifying for food stamps. i promise you dawg, my 500 dollars a month is not helping ANYONE with groceries... but, it's still kind of cool to be an adult, even if i don't feel or act like one! 

in may, i graduated high school!!! fun fact, the newjeans "how sweet" era / comeback happened on the day of my graduation ceremony... so that album is very very special to me!! the coolest part about that day was getting to go to dinner with my big sister, who i don't get to see very often :P we got my favorite restaurant in town that we don't usually get to go to, since it's kinda pricy and kinda inconvenient lol!!!

i went to 3 concerts this year!!! one in may, the decemberists; two in june, orville peck and the crane wives !!!!! so i got to cross two off my bucket list, and take my mom to one for the first time!! i was super proud of myself, i'm making big kid money lol so i got to take my mom to a concert!! the other two i went to with my dad and my best friend, respectively...

then, in june!!! i took literally the BIGGEST TRIP OF MY LIFE!! it still doesn't feel real... i went to sri lanka with my mom!! she let me pick anywhere in the world for a graduation gift, and we both knew we wanted to go somewhere we'd probably never get the chance to go again! so, since i plan to study abroad and travel with my dad as well... we picked sri lanka! and it was definitely one of the COOLEST experiences of my life. i saw monkeys, elephants, and peacocks in the wild, ancient temples, ruins of kingdoms, climbed to the top of lion rock, had my picture taken by strangers at least 20 times (my hair was a shocking blue at the time lolz), rode in a tuk-tuk (will NOT be doing that again, very loud very not sensory friendly !!) tried new food, got sick cause i drank the water like an idiot... i mean, it was just truly surreal. the weather was wonderful, the people were friendly, the exchange rate was awesome for us, and the tea... i've tried to replicate how they brewed the tea, since i brought some home, and it's just not as good :( but genuinely, i think i'll be trying to go back for the rest of my life. it was so wonderfully beautiful, and i had so much fun. plus it was bonding with my mom, which meant a whole lot to me!! i love my mama a lot, and i'm so happy we got to take that big trip together!!! much love to our driver / guide pali, too, hope he's doing alright. oh, and let's not talk about me having a 2 day long panic attack because i thought i'd get rabies :P
if i had to pick a favorite place, i would say kandy!!! we happened to be there during the poson full moon poya day!! which is like, a major festival holiday celebrating the introduction of buddhism into sri lanka!!!! so we got to walk through the sacred temple of the tooth, which was... very crowded since it was a festival day lmaooo, but very cool!! during that day!! and we also got to see kandyan dance which was so cool. low key after the show, the fire dancers were around for pictures, and if i ever doubted that i was gay before then. holy shit i made such a fool of myself my mom INSISTED we get pictures and i'm standing next to one of the most attractive men i've ever seen in my life. anyway you guys don't need to know about my sri lanka gay panic but!!! the dancing was so beautiful and so cool. and low key... my mom and i didn't end up liking the traditional food OR I DID UNTIL I GOT SICK AND THEN OBVIOUSLY MY BRAIN WAS LIKE <i>NOPE</i> SO LIKE AUGHHH but kandy had this wonderful western-style cafe!! and the air bnb we stayed at in kandy was overlooking the mountains and the city... it was truly beautiful...

sri lanka was basically the only awesome thing to happen to me all year!!

then, in august, i started college / university !!!! honestly it has... not been great? kinda hate it? BUT I WANT THAT DEGREE SO BAD!! as an anthropology major, i have a whole bunch of freedom over what classes i wanna take (only 4 major required classes, and i've already completed a bunch of my gen eds!!!!) so yeah, i took a philosophy class and i have to lean in and tell you real close.... NEVER FUCKING DO THAT. NO IT'S NOT AN EASY OR FUN OR INTERESTING ELECTIVE IT'S <i>HELL</i>. that is all. OH AND I HAD A REALLY MEAN PROFESSOR THIS SEMESTER >:( she was a complete jerk. but i also learned about linguistic anthropology (which i didn't even know was a thing!!!) and it was the best class EVER !!! i loved my prof and i get to take a class with her again this upcoming semester!! it was super cool. 10/10 would recommend linguistic anthropology classes for anyone looking for a credit cause they're fun!!!

during the school semester... like, nothing happened. i was so busy with work and school that genuinely i had no time to myself.... twas quite scary.....

but one super cool thing is that i joined student radio!!!! i have a radio show !!! EEEE!!! i get to play music and it's SO FUN it's actually the best-- if you're going to a university that has a radio club, join it for sure, everyone is so... well, everyone is so pretentious at mine, but they're still nice. and besides, having a radio show is fun!!! and all the events are cool!!

and now we're here! in december, during winter break. my christmas was AWESOME i got so much cool stuff and got to give everyone i love gifts that they adore!!! i'm really happy about that :D
