Movie Blog

Wanted to make a list of all the movies I watch in 2025, so thought I'd start on New Years Eve.

(I only update this blog every once in a while, but my Letterboxd is pretty much always up to date)

If I mention spoilers in my little rambles, this'll be next to the title -->

December 31st 2024

Sonic The Hedgehog 3 (2024)

(Saw in cinemas with family)

AAAHAHGSJDGDJD

IT WAS SO GOOD!!!!!!!!

Definitely my favourite out of the 3

Random things I liked-

The lighting-

Oh man, the lighting was beautiful!! (Especially the scenes in Tokyo and space) And when their quills/eyes glowed it was just 👌 *chefs kiss*.

The look of the Characters-

The CGI was great as always, the characters seemed even more expressive in this one? Might have been imagining it though, haha. And they did the makeup and green screening really well for Jim Carrey. Actually forgot about the fact that they had to film each of his characters/roles separately.

The comedy-

A little cringe, but in a really good way. Definitely felt like Sonic.  That one fourth wall break took me out of it a little bit though.

The emotional scenes-

And the emotional scenes hit hard. (Might have teared up a little…) Just wish they gave us a bit more time in the those moments, rather than just going back to the Robotnik comedy duo.

Either way, amazing movie, been waiting for it since the teaser at the end of the last one, and totally worth it.

(There is so much more I could say about this movie, but I’m gonna hold back.)

5/5 stars, will be rewatching many times.

January 2nd or 3nd

Crazy Rich Asians (2018)

Watched this movie with my parents. Pretty good, nothing crazy.

3/5 stars

January 5th

Killer Book Club (2023)

(Watched this one with a friend at a sleepover)

Definitely took a lot of inspiration from Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Felt like watching a fan fiction that got turned into a movie, but I quite liked it.

Random things I liked-

The lighting in this movie was STUNNING and beautifully done, as well as the cinematography in general. I thought the actors did a great job, and even though a lot of it was fairly predictable, I really enjoyed it.

4/5 stars

January 5th

Scream 4 (2011)

(Also watched this one with a friend at the sleepover)

It was fine🤷

3.5/5 stars, not very memorable for me

January 5th

Shaun of the Dead (2004)

(Also watched this one with a friend at the sleepover)

Been planning on watching this movie for a while now, and finally did. And I really liked it! A stupid romance comedy set in the beginning of a zombie outbreak. It was great.

4/5 stars

January 5th

Scream (2022)

(Also watched this one with a friend at the sleepover)

eh

3/5 stars

January 9th

Cunk on Life (2024)

(watched with family)

Felt a little drawn out, and overused the asshole joke A LOT. But not too bad. Really didn't need a frickin sex scene though. And I still much prefer the series.

3/5 stars

January 11th

Chappie (2015)

(Watched with my brother instead of hanging out with our grandparents)

I really liked this movie.

I thought there was great character development, and some genuinely emotional scenes. And just the right mix of action, and heart. And the visuals were surprisingly well done.

I thought Chappie was a great character, and the voice actor did a great job. His design was great too, and very good at communicating emotions, despite not having a face. The antennae acting similarly to some animals ears, really stood out.

This movie feels pretty underrated, and I kind of wish it was talked about more. It tackles a lot of different subjects, and seems to have a lot of heart. Definitely a movie I'll come back to rewatch again.

4/5 stars

Changing Lanes (2002)

(Watched with my family)

It was fine. (I forgot what I thought of it)

3.5/5 stars

January 14th

The Perfect Storm (2000)

(Watched with my family)

How do they know what happened to them if none of them made it?? So.... majority of the movie, that was based on true events, was complete bullshit?

Eh, I don't really care, it was boring.

3/5 stars

Are You There God? It's Me, Margaret. (2023)

(Watched with my mum and dad, cause my mum enjoyed the book growing up)

As a trans guy, who isn't 12, couldn't relate.

3/5 stars

January 17th

Red One (2024)

(Watched with my family)

I see why it flopped in theatres. $250 million for that??

Also, I really couldn't tell who their target audience was. The premise felt like it was meant for little kids, (Santa gets kidnapped, oh no. everyone on the naughty list is gonna fucking die), but then the CGI parts (that looked terrible btw) felt too scary for young children. And they just flat out swore multiple times.

2/5 stars

January 21st

Wall E (2008)

(Watched on the Queercraft Discord during the Pixar Movie Marathon)

I forgot how much I love this movie <3

The music, the visuals, the story, the characters - all perfect. Definitely one of my favourite Pixar movies.

5/5 stars

January 21st

Coco (2017)

(Watched on the Queercraft Discord during the Pixar Movie Marathon)

Just as good as I remember :)

4/5 stars

January 21st

Elemental

(Watched on the Queercraft Discord during the Pixar Movie Marathon)

Never got around to watching this one, but so glad I've seen it now. Story and themes were great, and really well done and visuals were beautiful. Can't even imagine how hard it must have been to animate. And I love the way this movie used the elements so creatively, both plot wise, and the little details.

4.5/5

January 27th

Spy Hard (1996)

(Watched with family)

That was bad.

2.5/5

January 28th

Carry-On (2024)

(Watched with family)

Why do the IMDB reviewers seem to have beef with this movie??

I really liked it, so I don't care what they thought.

3.5/5

January 28th

To Catch a Killer (2023)

(Watched with family)

4/5

February 7th

Bridesmaids (2011)

(Watched with family)

Had to leave the room during the dress shopping scenes. But the entire aeroplane sequence was done perfectly 👌

3.5/5

4/5

February 24th

Rebel Ridge (2024)

(Watched with family)

Well that escalated quickly.

4/5

February 27th

The Twilight Saga: New Moon (2009)

(Watched with a friend at a sleepover)

Attractive man? Or other attractive man? Neither. Suicide.

3/5

March 1st

Promising Young Woman (2020)

(Watched with family)

I don't remember what I thought of this one.

4/5

March 14th

The Electric State (2025)

(Watched with family)

This movie was fine. But one I'll probably forget exists after a week. They had a cool idea, and they definitely had the budget. But I don't know, it just didn't really work.

Animation and character design for the robots were great though (other then the peanut, cause he was terrifying)

I loved all the different types of robots and animatronics, and the details that were put into their designs.

One thing that bothered me while watching this movie though-

Who's the target audience? It gives off the vibe of a movie made for the family, with it's messages and overall plot. But the swearing was a bit to frequent, to say it's aimed at kids.

And I just have to say, I really didn't care about the characters. They just felt kind of hollow, and the sibling dynamic felt so forced. Like they wanted us to connect with these characters, after giving us nothing about who they are.

And why wouldn't she use the headsets? Like, I get that she thought the real world is better. blah blah blah, but I really thought they'd link it back to the car crash, or something to do with the family. But nooOOOoo. They hit a deer. A deer?!?! How does that link back to the actual plot of the movie??

It just felt like a missed opportunity. But I don't know, I'm not a professional writer.

3/5

March 20th

Spree (2020)

(Rewatched with a friend at a sleepover)

3rd rewatch, and just as good as I remember, Joe Keery slays so hardddd (literally).

4.5/5

March 20th

Ice Age (2002)

(Rewatched at Youth Group)

I forgot that this movie is actually really good.

Good movie 👍

4/5

April 7th

Diary of a Wimpy Kid (2010)

(Rewatched with my dad and brother)

Legitimately one of my favourite movies. And not even because of nostalgia, it's genuinely really well done.

5/5

April 11th

RV (2006)

(Rewatched with family)

3.5/5

April 15th

Everything Must Go (2010)

(Watched with my parents)

My mum said we were gonna watch a comedy movie with Will Ferrell in it. I wasn't expecting to be watching this sort of movie tonight. But I really liked it. Pleasantly surprised.

4/5

April 17th

Little Fockers (2010)

(Watched with my family)

Funny at times, but mainly just made me feel uncomfortable, or just annoyed. Plots that revolve around an easily explained misunderstanding can really annoy me.

2.5/5

April 21st

Hot Pursuit (2015)

(Watched with my family)

Defiantly not my thing, but it wasn't unbearable

2/5

May 4th

Wicked (2024)

(Watched with my mum)

Definitely prefer the stage musical, but that's pretty hard to beat. I wouldn't say it's bad though. It was fine.

But every time Ethan Slater came on screen, I was expecting his SpongeBob voice, lmao

4/5

May 10th

Dog Man (2025)

(Watched at the cinemas with my mum and brother)

I was sort of expecting something closer to the captain underpants movie, but this one felt a bit all over the place.

Definitely a movie aimed for little kids, but I was kinda hoping that it'd also appeal to people a bit older. I mean, I used to read these books all the time when I was younger, so I was really hoping I'd enjoy this as much as I did, the books.

Still, it is not at all a 'bad movie'. I just wasn't the target demographic. I still enjoyed it.

Don't like the fish though. Didn't like him in the books, and he's even more annoying in the movie. And he's hardly even in it.

3.5/5

May 11th

Big Business (1988)

(Watched with family)

Roone's reaction to seeing them in the bathroom, always makes me burst out laughing.

4/5

May 16th

The Beekeeper (2024)

(Watched with family)

If this movie was satire, it'd be fine. But they want us to tale this seriously???

I mean, Jason Stathom just walks into a building and tells the receptionist that he's gonna burn it to the ground. And her response is just, "okay, thanks."

Spent majority of this movie laughing way too hard at how bad it was, with my family.

2/5
