Happy holidays everyone! We're back for some festive fish, perfect for the break. I have a few blogs planned, which I meant to post earlier, but the holidays are busy. So, anyway... today's fish of the day is the christmas tree worm! Awh!!
Christmas tree worm facts:
- Christmas tree worms can be found in all sorts of colours, like red, orange, yellow, white, and blue. Sadly, as far as i'm aware of... no green!
- These silly worms are very homely. They live in burrows they make in coral, and most of their body is hidden in it. Usually, only the little Christmas tree-esque radioles (apparently that's what you call them?) stay exposed. Now, once these worms find a home, they don't move from it, not even for reproduction! However they don't hesitate to hide and retreat their radioles into their burrow, even at the sight of a shadow. Reminds me of a certain eel...
Additionally, although living in coral is almost always the case for these creatures, two were apparently found living on a giant clam shell! I would too, I love shells. This was surprising because although tubeworms were known to live on shells, christmas tree worms was unheard of. They're taking over!!!!
- Speaking of their radioles, why do they even have them? For these worms, they act as a way to breath and eat! They are able to absorb air particles in the water, along with food particles and certain planktons. I originally thought it was maybe as a form of self defense, to scare predators away somehow.. I guess the previous fact disproves that.
- Christmas tree worms usually grow to around 3.5-3.8cm, which is very small. That's like... half of your pinky finger! Now, normally small creatures don't live very long, but these worms can stick around for up to 30, or even 40 years, which is pretty impressive!
Do you got that christmas tree worm in you?ย

land worms are ugly and scary... sea worms are mostly silly goofy goobers :3
but wait, those hook worms on the beach (i think that's how they're called (i rather call them demons...)) that are like very dangerous, those are land worms ore sea worms? (or both?)

are you talking about the really long ones people pull out of sand?
Firstly, im not sure if they're truly dangerous, they don't bite people and only eat food on the sandy floor.
Secondly, if you are talking about those worms (which are simply called beach worms), yes, they are considered to be a marine animal. To be completely honest, alot of marine worms look like that. (Look up polychaetes!) Marine worms in general can really vary between cute and monsterous, but i think all of them are interesting enough.

i heard of them in a video abt not walking barefoot on beachs but it seems it's for every type of soil so i think it's a land worm right? ;w;

oh dear i know nothing about actual hookworms! I did a quick search, and i'm getting mixed results. Some sources say they're considered to be marine, others dont!

imo i think they would be, because hookworms are nematodes which are usually found in some sort of aquatic environment.

that's very interesting :333 it was really fun to talk omg (โ โโ โฝโ โโ ) tbh i don't usually get invested in animal things but seeing u talking about them makes me want to learn more (โ โโ โฝโ โโ )(โ โโ โฝโ โ)
(i still hate land worms... once i was happily taking a shower... and there was three huge red worms crawling on the wall.... >< it was a traumatic experience... /hj)
