re-animator (1985)

"you know, you should have stolen more of gruber's ideas, then at least you'd have ideas!" (i live for the beef between hill and west. as put by another fan: in every scene they're together in hill looks like he wants to call herbert every slur imaginable and probably create some new ones)

"i was busy pushing bodies around, as you well know, and what would a note say, dan? 'cat dead, details later'?" (iconic. list could NOT be complete without this one)

"you may well be right. are you sure you want to find out?" (oh no he's hot)

"dear deluded little danny. so much he doesn't know, isn't there?" (i've spent over 15 minutes trying to figure out whether it's "danny" or "daddy" as in the dean. i am going insane. someone please correct me if i'm wrong)

"yes. daddy will see that we're serious." (herbert wants to get w/ dan so bad it makes him look stupid)

"he failed! not i!" (i know that the autistic herbert headcanon is really popular but consider: if he also had npd)

"shock. don't worry." (there is no heterosexual explanation for this scene)

"no, no, it's just a weak solution! so i don't have to sleep just to keep the brain... sharp..." > "yes! i need it! ...please..." (i understand why they deleted this scene but that does not change my opinion that they should have kept it. it adds SO much to herbert's character and explains a lot)

bride of re-animator (1990)

"what do you think of the location of the will in the brain now, dr. hill? ...i'm sorry, what was that? actually, you've been quite useful to me." (he deserves to be wickedly condescending more often. i like it when he does that)

"but look at you now! you're nothing but a dead... head! *smacks with limb* a no... body!" (haha you're so funny i love your jokes haha... can we make out)

"i didn't see you rejecting my work when meg was lying there dead! where were your great ideals then?!" (beginning of the "if i bring back my crush's dead girlfriend do you think he'll like me" arc)

"don't let the little head rule the big head, daniel." (wow he really does hate every woman dan canoodles with. i wonder why. one of science's greatest mysteries)

"no, dan- dan!- i can't help it if he- his heart gave out!" (dan loses some "i like this character" points for this scene. herbert looks like he's in sensory hell :[ despite this he still can't help acting iconic af so this is included)

"HE'S A WIFE BEATER, DAN! USE THE GUN!" (herbert is truly a girl's girl)

"the lawyer's hand. ...case dismissed." (me when i'm at the bad puns competition but herbert west is already there)

"my god... they're using tools." (THE WAY I CACKLED)

beyond re-animator (2003)

"your powers of observation are dubious at best." (13 years later, still a baddie)

"my last partner turned state's evidence against me. i'm expecting better things of you." (wow dan... really... against your husband... L behavior. also the parallels between howard and dan are painful in a good way, poor herbert he will NEVER be able to forget)

"all of this is the result of years and years of painstaking research under incomprehensive simple conditions, how dare you say my work is wrong?!" (despite the dan erasure i was VERY glad to see that herbert character wasn't butchered in beyond. this is a very him thing to say)

"stay away from her! she's sick. contagious." (poor laura she really did deserve better. just like all the other re-animator girlies)

"welcome back, warden. before i leave, i want to conduct one last experiment, and you are the perfect subject. those three years in solitary were very instructive. i did my best work in there, and this is the result." (YES herbert really deserves to commit more violence. this is my favorite scene in the whole film, i wish he could've done this to hill too. they both deserve it)

"do you hear that? there's a riot going on up there! the animals are running the zoo. they'll make their way down here quite soon. i'd like to stick around for the results, but i can't, you see - there's a new early release program, just today, and i qualify." (take back the bad pun comment he is completely redeemed for this badassery)

"i say you've had enough." (this line would have been better if herbert's reagent addiction was canon but still)
