How do i learn to skateboard

I have no clue on how to skateboard. I was out today with my friends, and peter has a cool skateboard he recently got and i wanted to try it out. i attempted to go on it and nearly slipped on my ass multiple times. i keep tilting to the side, so not cool. Apparently im a poser if i cant skateboard so plz give tips!!
