this was a separate blog set as private like a whole month ago but i want to repost it publically because idk its 11pm nd i am bored lololol. take a shot every time i say sketchbook
when i say i hate sketchbook tours i am specifically talking about the really popular ones featuring books that artists use solely for their fully rendered stunning finished pieces made with insanely expensive supplies that people would kill themselves to get their hands on. like girl thats your portfolio not a sketchbook there is a difference between those two things, dont act all humble and call your video a SKETCHBOOK tour if your book does not have any SKETCHES in it???
i understand that most artists with a large online presence do have an ACTUAL sketchbook and also a different "art to post on social media" sketchbook which is the one that they show off 99% of the time, but imo its misleading for people to only make videos posting the final results of their art or what they think looks the most appealing cause 99% of the time all it does is make other artists jealous and feel like they're not good enough because god forbid their sketchbooks actually feature motherfucking sketches like??????????? 😭 i see so many people post comments like "im quitting art" and "i give up i cant do this anymore" the moment they see these videos and even if its just jokes its still overall rly toxic and puts this idea into peoples heads that theyre not a Real Artist™ if they dont produce the most soul shattering tear jerkingly beautiful visually flawless artwork of all time whenever they touch a piece of paper when THAT IS NOT WHAT ART IS ABOUT rrhrrhghrhrrghhfjfd i sound so cringe whenever i catch myself unironically saying that but its true
this type of content is still around but i am so glad it started dying out after like 2019 and people now arent as scared to show their art that is unfinished or just a quick pencil scribble or they think looks like straight ass because literally the most important part of a sketchbook is to note down ideas/concepts not the actual quality of the art in question or the cost/popularity of the supplies used to make it. sketchbooks are for sketching not flexing you get me 🔥🔥🔥🔥
