stamp

YOU'VE BEEN INVITED TO THE TOWN PLAY!

the new year approaches

____________________________________________________________________________________________________________

since i posted the last one 3 days late, you get this one a day early [smirks] this is due to my kind and giving nature

i tried a whole bunch of new shit on last weeks and idk i don't think i liked how it turned out as much as the first one,,, so i'm not bringing some of that back.

christmas has come and gone, and naturally, i have received some albums. so i figured i'm gonna do things a bit differently this week - instead of going through my backlog and such, i'm gonna talk about the albums i got for christmas!! i also have a plan for next week...but i'm not telling yet...

as a refresher - italicized tracks are interludes [that's new!], bolded tracks are my standouts (a.k.a. a 4.5 (out of 5) or higher),  a ★ indicates my favorite song, and an × indicates my least favorite song

CHRISTMAS HAUL!!!

Hellfire - black midi | 2022, vinyl

avant-prog | brutal prog

★★★★★

i have two copies of this now and i don't know what to do with the second one. i'm still devastated that they broke up. this is one of the best albums of the 20s so far, #2 imo. geordie greep has one of the most instantly recognizable voices i've ever heard and i really can't imagine black midi's sound working the same without him. his auctioneer-esque flow really is what sells a lot of these songs, particularly Hellfire and The Race Is About to Begin, the latter of which is a 7 minute brain-melting epic that is an incredible display of the sheer talent these guys have. speaking of which, the technical skill displayed on not just Hellfire but really every black midi album truly is a feat, especially with just how young they are. morgan simpson i love you

i think everybody needs to hear this before they die

      tracklist

  1. Hellfire
  2. Sugar / Tzu
  3. Eat Men Eat
  4. Welcome to Hell
  5. Still ×

  10. 27 Questions

You Won't Get What You Want - Daughters | 2018, vinyl

noise rock | industrial rock

★★★★★

i hate that alexis is like the Worst Guy Ever because i love daughters so muchh (〒_〒). but tbh at the same time....knowing what we know now kind of adds a whole new layer to both daughters and lingua ignota's music that makes them both even more captivating to listen to. i don't listen to a lot of industrial rock but if it all sounds like this i might have 2 tap in

if you really like defending msi, i have a new challenge for you

      tracklist

  1. City Song

The Money Store - Death Grips | 2012, vinyl

industrial hip hop | hardcore hip hop | experimental hip hop

★★★★½

i don't think i love this album as much as most death grips fans but it is easily some of their most impressive work. if i have to be completely honest with you, the sole reason i can think of that i haven't given this a 5 is just because i fucking hate Lost Boys so much i really fucking hate Lost Boys and if it wasn't there i would probably give it a 5.

for fans of that one guy on tiktok who juggles to death grips

The New Sound - Geordie Greep | 2024, vinyl

jazz-rock | progressive rock | art rock

★★★★½

i find it strange that he's coming to Brattleboro, Vermont on tour. fucking Brattleboro? Really? anyway i WILL be there and i'm very excited.

i was admittedly a little worried how greep would fare without cameron and morgan but The New Sound  in my opinion feels like a natural progression black midi could've taken. this is more jazz and latin inspired than anything black midi did, and a testament to how incredible of a musician greep is. i am of the belief that he truly is a generational talent because he has 4 total albums to his name and the musicianship and technical skill shown on all 4 fucking blows my mind. what a guy.

for people who are really lonely and horny

cartooom! - Plus-Tech Squeeze Box | 2004, CD

picopop

★★★★★

feels like getting punched in the face with glitter and silly string. i feel strangely nostalgic listening to this despite the fact that i listened to it for the first time like 2 months ago. they really capture the western cartoon feel well, Dough-Nuts Town's map and THE mARTIN SHOW!! i really could imagine being in the opening for some old cartoon network show that got cancelled after one season. and have some advice - maybe don't listen to this for the first time at 8 in the morning like i did.

for big fans of glitter glue and decora fashion

I ALSO LISTENED TO THIS AGAIN

Bottomless Pit - Death Grips | 2016

industrial hip hop | abstract hip hop | experimental hip hop

★★★★½

this went from being one of my least favorite death grips albums to one of my favorites from them. i think i like this more than The Money Store because although The Money Store undoubtably has the stronger highlights i think Bottomless Pit comes pretty damn close and i think i just generally like the non highlights here more than the non highlights on tms. the lack of Lost Boys also plays heavily into its favor. i will say this is a great album to clean your room to. i locked the fuck in. my bedsheets have never gone on so smoothly.

for people who listened to the money store because of that one guy on tiktok who juggles to death grips

  1. Giving Bad People Good Ideas

the new year approaches and with that, so does my challenge to myself to listen to a new album every single day in 2025. i already have a plan for maybe the first week, but after that i plan to randomly select a theme every week or so that'll determine where i get my albums from. i'm super excited to get the challenge started and i hope at least someone else is too (∩_∩)
