2025 will be my first full year as an "adult!" (Turned eighteen this April, graduated high school in June.)
I am so exited to see what the future has to offer for me now that I have more freedom in the world.
I have set out some goals that I think will maximize everything my new and more grown-up life has in store.
1. Ditch the Iphone!
I have a terrible phone and social media addiction. I spend HOURS scrolling through tiktok and instagram. What I get out of it? Horrible self esteem, and hours of my life thrown away that I will never get back.
I have tried just simply deleting the apps, but my addiction is so strong I just end up redownloading it. It's like an alcoholic locking up his booze but he still has the key. I need to get rid of the phone completely.
I am looking at flip phones now. I really like the Samsung Galaxy Folder, but I'm going to spend a little more time tonight looking into different models and I'll talk with my parents tomorrow.
I want to spend a good amount of consideration on this because it will be a HUGE change for me. I am nervous but so exited.
2. Get my License
Not having a license just sucks. I either have to uber or rely on my parents or my boyfriend for rides.
I doubt I will have a car as soon as I get my license but this is the first step and I'm going to have to do it eventually.
I am studying now for my permit test so I can practice with my mom or dad, and then I'll get my license. My goal is to get my license before my birthday so I have until April 4th.
3. Reading and Writing more
I have always been a creative. I love writing and it is what I ultimately want to do as my career. Both my parents are journalists so it is in my DNA.
I took a creative writing course my first semester in college and loved it so much. I am taking a more extensive poetry course this semester with the same professor so that will help.
To be a good writer you also need to be a reader, so I am going to start reading a lot too. My goal is 32 books in 2025, or three books a month.
Bonus! Getting rid of my smartphone will give me way less distraction and more time to read and write.
4. Get all As
Last semester I did not push myself as hard and ended up with a C, two Bs and one A. I am only taking four classes and I don't have much else going on besides working two days a week so I don't really have an excuse for poor grades.
Spring semester I am really going to push myself to get all As and excel in all my classes. Especially since I want to possibly transfer someplace out of state after my two years of community college. Need all the scholarships I can get!
Bonus! Getting rid of my smartphone will give me much more time to study and prioritize my grades. I can recall numerous occasions where I had two papers due at midnight and I would just scroll through tiktok instead..
5. Budgeting
I have been so bad with my money! I impulse buy like there is no tomorrow.
I would be horrified to know how much I have spent on diet coke and candy and clothes I don't wear more than three or four times. 2025 will be the year of spending wiser and quitting the impulse spending.
Bonus! Getting rid of my smart phone will greatly limit the amount of online impulse spending I do with apple pay.
6. Learn Spanish
My dad and grandparents are Cuban, and my grandparents do not speak any English. Additionally, I live in a very Spanish-speaking area.
I can speak enough to have a basic conversation and understand what is being said, but I am nowhere near fluent. I would love to learn how to read and write in Spanish, and have more in depth conversations.
If anything, just to be able to talk more with my lovely Abuela, who raised me. I used to speak a lot more Spanish too, but I kind of lost it after spending less time at my grandparents house. I will become much more fluent this year, maybe I will take a Spanish course.

Me and you literally have the same goals lol. I just turned 18 this year in June and I already feel like I'm so behind when it comes to driving and I am always trying different things to not be distracted on my phone. Surprisingly I've managed to read quite a few books, but over this Christmas break I have been on my phone way more than I would like to admit ._.

I write a lot already, but that is only because its a habit I've had since I was in elementary. As a matter of fact I just finished writing before I decided to look on this website. I think the only difference between me and you is that I rather learn French than Spanish
