Has anyone ever done this??

I'm creative when it comes to styling sometimes or so I've been told, and sometimes I want to make this outfit but I don't have the right materials nor patience to do or buy it. So something that I do is just go around my house and scavenge for stuff that I could use as an alternative, sometimes it's a table cloth, maybe old kiddie clothes, old accessories from toys that no one needs anymore, or even fabric scraps my mom leaves lying around after sewing(she's a former seamstress/indie designer), does anyone else do that???
