1. Who they are?
El Cuarteto De Nos it’s an Uruguayan band that was created in Montevideo on april 14th of 1984.
The first members were Roberto and Ricardo: the Musso brothers. Then Santiago Tavella joined with the bass. These tree would do covers of The Bleatles, The Rolling Stones and Led Zeppelin.
In 1984 they made their fisrt concert using the name of “El Cuarteto De Nos”, El Sello Ayuí proposes them to record their first album that would be shared with Alberto Wolf. The proposal is accepted and on October 1, 1984 Alberto Wolf y el Cuarteto de Nos is released; it was first published in cassette format and the following year on vinyl with six songs by Wolf and another six by them, making it a split album. In 1985 Alvin Pintos joind the band as the drummer, and they made their first live performance at the Villa Biarritz fair, where they dressed up with aluminum foil on their legs and balloons attached to their heads, generating interest in the audience. Since that time the originality of their multiple interpretations has paid off and they had a large following of fans of all ages. By 1986 Cuarteto de Nos was named among the most outstanding bands of post-dictatorship rock,5 and one of the most promising in the country.
In November 1986 they participated in the Montevideo Rock festival which had an attendance of 60 000 people, it was the biggest event in the history of Uruguayan rock up to that time; however, they were forced to leave the stage because the audience began to boo them and throw whatever they had in hand at them, a Brecha chronicle commented: “When we asked why the group was being attacked in this way, we were told that people dislike that they do propaganda for Lee pants, that they have a program on TV [La cueva del rock on Channel 4], that they are so promoted by the media and that they dress pitucos.” (Pituco means smog/Snooty/cocky)
Soy una arveja, their first solo studio album, was released in 1987 and performed that year at the El Galpón theater, where they made official their new disguises as grown women -referring to the eleventh track of the same album-, in which they used to call themselves Potota, Tita, Berta and Albina on more than one occasion. Pintos revealed that in the post-dictatorship rock movement “they were not so welcome” and enjoyed playing in theaters because they felt like “fish in the water” and it worked well. Soy una arveja contains fourteen songs, and has a sound much more focused on new wave than the previous album, since electric guitars were incorporated. The lyrics are taken to a more unusual and surrealistic extreme, and the first references to the city of Tajo were made.
In 2001, Ricardo Musso left El Cuarteto de Nos temporarily due to a disagreement with his bandmates over the cover of the Cortamambo album. Two years after the release of El Cuarteto de Nos (album) he released his first solo album since 1993, Servo, an experimental pop album that mixes various avant-garde music techniques with jazz and Latin American musical genres. The song “Autos nuevos” from this album is reversioned in Raro.
After 29 years of career, Ricardo announces that he would leave Cuarteto de Nos due to musical differences and that he had no plans to return. Ricardo leaves, while Santiago Marrero and Gustavo “Topo” Antuña join the band.
Then, on a March night (March 20, 2024), El Cuarteto announces through its social media that Santiago Tavella is leaving the band to concentrate on his solo career. (But I personally think there’s another reason… maybe a fight??)
So, today, El Cuarteto De Nos counts with 4 members, and lots of memories.

2. Most Popular songs
“Enamorado Tuyo” Written and singed by Santiago Tavella, this song has circulated Tik Tok and has been used in many edits because of it’s corny lyric and good melody. This one has the debate of whether it is a love song or a heartbreak song…
“Lo Malo De Ser” Bueno it’s the first song that comes to people when they think about El Cuarteto de Nos. One of their signature songs, for sure.
“Yendo A La Casa de Damián” it’s a song that has a lot of English in it’s lyric, wich if funny because it has the phrase “Yo que en inglés solo se decir yes“ (I can only say “yes” in English) It shows how in the Spanish language we already have quite a few English words implied in our daily life, such as Scout, Shell, Crush, etc. Although the song touches on much more interesting topics!
But the most interesting thing is the reason for its creation, as Roberto Musso was going to buy food for his cat, but on his way he was coming across many things that made him ask himself “Why is it so hard for me to get there?”, which is the main theme of this song.As a curious fact, the song “Palomo” from Revista, Esta! which has a similar formula, but a completely different theme, is considered a demo.
