Beastars (no spoilers)

I'm several episodes in and really don't know what to think about this anime yet... it's so strange. From the pictures on tumblr I was expecting a cop show (something about Legoshi's jaded look and formal uniform), then while watching it looked like it was going romcom, and now idek. There's a lot to say but mostly this seems to be one of those show that you think about on your own. I'm loving the worldbuilding so far.

Putting the violence between factions aside, the Academy campus looks so cozy and sunny. Beastars' art is incredibly visually pleasing, especially the 2D drawn segments. Just beautiful. Cell shading is one of my favorite styles, especially in 3D. I've always wanted to watch A Scanner Darkly purely because it looks like a hyperrealistic comic book come to life. It'd be sick if life actually looked like that.

This next part might be a tiny bit more spoilery.

It seems there's some speculation that Legoshi is gay?? Normally I'd be conductor of the gay train, but it seems unlikely when the main social conflict for him so far revolves around a cute girl with no special attention paid to other boys. I dunno. Maybe he has some revelations in the later seasons. Shrug; don't forget bi people exist y'all.
