The Origin Of Lolita Fashion (#1)

((sorry if theres too many gramatical mistakes T_T i tried translating trough chat GPT but it got too robotic))

Lolita fashion started in Japan, in the end of the 70s/start of the 80s. Its mainly inspired by Victorian and Rococo fashion. Young men and women started to use it there to explicit their non-commitment with the fashion standards in the Japanese society, using the exageration for their expression, that being a rebellious act from them.

The subculture's name its kind of controversial because of its name, making a lot of people that aren't familiarized with the fashion think it is about the book with the same name by Vladmir Nabokov, that is about the romance between a middle-aged man and his twelve year old stepdaughter, Altough the subculture not having anything with the book and its history. The subculture have this name because of a Japanese magazine that made an article comparing the "pretty girl" and the "Lolita girl" (or smth like that i forgot ╥﹏╥ lol ), using it as a pejorative slang for the girls that wore those clothes, and the "nickname" started to be used permanently in the subculture.
