Young woman from Nazareth dressed in murky blueĀ
Hands clasped o'er her babe which is dueĀ
Those around with cruel whispers and jeers
She turns away to stay her tears
She prays "Father help me to be strong,Ā
For I know your plans can never be wrong."
They think she's a whore they call her a harlot
Insults that could make the cheek turn scarletĀ
Falsehoods and accusations are discouraging
But truly though with child she be a virginĀ
But she must endure the cruelty of man
She will do it because with Gods Grace she canĀ
Atop a shambling donkey she ridesĀ
The creature toddles and rattles her sidesĀ
Dear Joseph leads the beast as best he canĀ
Gently and carefully over the shifting sandĀ
She does her best to sit confidant and tallĀ
As they go to the city of David to answer Caesars callĀ
To the census that will count all that yet liveĀ
She does not know yet the gift that will be giveĀ
They arrive at Bethlehem at the Start of nightĀ
In the humid dusk at the exit of lightĀ
Unto the crowded inn they goĀ
But alas the keeper turns them away with a noĀ
Joseph begs him for the sake of the unborn childĀ
And for a moment the keepers eyes grow mild
Then with his blessing go to the stable damp and darkĀ
The stench of animals rank and starkĀ
And there the child is born The Son of GodĀ
Who in the form of man on earth will trodĀ
Will give his life upon the treeĀ
Upon the hill at CalvaryĀ
The babe Mary holds close to her chestĀ
As she and Joseph try and restĀ
She beholds in awe the shepherds who come and bowĀ
The babe in the manger in estate lowĀ
This promise of God now fulfilledĀ
The cost of sin now waived and stilledĀ
The word made flesh in her arms
The one who will calm the stormsĀ
She thanks the Lord for her blessingĀ
For the darkness in its cessingĀ
Treasures up she all these things in her heartĀ
And faithful dost she remain until this life she departĀ
Thank you young woman of Nazareth for being strong and faithfulĀ
From a youngĀ woman two millennia later forever gratefulĀ
