The Roaring Twenties

My neighbor makes large Tikis in his backyard and sells them. Right now there are tall logs propped up against the wall that faces my kitchen window. When I'm at the sink, I can see them looking in. Sometimes I keep my blinds closed during the day. I didn't used to do that back when I wasn't home all the time.

Several times a week I hear power saws and sanders and the chipping of wood as he carves. Sometimes he listens to music while he works. He prefers jazz and old ska. I appreciate the soundtrack. Today he is listening to 20's music. Not 2020, but 1920. The music of the flapper, the Charleston and the speakeasy. Jangly pianos, muted horns, and now he's whistling complicated melodies while he sands, while he brings his Tikis to life.

The duplex I live in was built in 1919. Before refrigerators and telephones. I'm working from home on my laptop, connected wirelessly to the internet, eating the lunch I heated up in my microwave.

Life last year feels like a hundred years ago.

He must be rad as hell, but I’ve never talked to him. I think my boyfriend has talked to him. He has great taste in music though!

23 skadoo! I recently saw the Disney movie the Princess and the Frog for the first time. If you haven't seen it, it's set in 1920s New Orleans. The music is so good. Jazz and voodoo and Cajun bayou zydeco. I think Randy Newman composed all the music.

That sounds great! I will check it out, as you have great taste in music and all things!
