cant understand HTML ;-;

since discovering spacehey and neocities i've been trying to dabble in HTML and CSS to customize the sites, friends and folks online say its really easy to learn but holy shit i cant get the logic of coding. how are you supposed to remember all of the commands and properties?!
everytime i try and practice coding i feel like i'm treading water and make no progress. anyone else had this experience?
