I've been dreaming of having my own pet for my whole life and after a shit ton of research and an extremely long google slides presentation, I finally have my own bunnies!!! They're littermates, and they're both 8 weeks (2 months) old as of right now (december 19). They're both sooooo sweet and cuddly, and their personalities are so vastly different and I LOVE IT!!! Bunny genders are basically IMPOSSIBLE to know until they're actually in the spaying/neutering process, so I don't know their genders and they aren't named yet. A lot of people are telling me to just name them gender neutral names, but I have a few names already picked out and id be really sad if I could've used them and I didn't, you know? If they're both girls, I'd like to name them Vanilla and Cream, after the sonic characters, and if they're a boy and a girl, I'd like to name them Cream and Cheese, also after the sonic characters lmao. I don't have any names picked out if they're both boys, but im pretty sure one of them is a girl just based on my knowledge of bunnies and their behaviors.
Currently, they're both separated in different places (as of when they turned 8 weeks) because bunnies are SUPER territorial, and their hormones control them even more than they do us humans, which could potentially lead to them hurting each other (or get pregnant, which im honestly less worried about). One bunny lives in a giant playpen, while the other lives in a hutch with an attached playpen (there's a reason for this).
^ A photo of my bunnies from when they first came home!! They're both fully holland lops, but the one on the bottom's ears hadn't lopped yet when I took this photo!!
When they first came home, I kept them together in one big playpen and hutch. They were only 7 weeks (yes I've only had them for a week lmao) at the time, and they were the first of their litter to leave. I figured it would be best for them to get accustomed to their new environment together, since bunnies are more social animals and feel safer together. I honestly don't know if this was the best idea, because everyone and their mother on reddit would probably yell at me for that because I didn't separate them immediately, but it worked out for me so wtv. They were separated within about 2 days, though.
The first bunny is this stinker
^Yes, they're taking a shit. This was literally the only time I could get them to stand still lmao.
Now this guy, they're insane. When I went to go meet the litter, they walked right up to me and asked for pets and cuddles so OBVIOUSLY I had to get them. On top of that, they look EXACTLY like this bunny that was in a dream I had the night before I met them, which was super weird because I hadn't seen any photos of them beforehand. (the prophecy....).
They're a lot more active than their sibling, and a lot more curious. They like to wander around and poke their nose where it doesn't belong, and they LOVE to climb on things. They get the zoomies often, and I'll wake up sometimes to them just sprinting around in their playpen. They can and will eat any food given to them, but they know how to share, considering it was never really a problem while I housed the bunnies together. They prefer to be outside as much as possible, spending as little time in their carrier (makeshift hutch- they're getting a tunnel for Yule/Christmas that will replace it) as possible.
They warmed up to me fast, within about 2 days they didn't immediately run away from me whenever I approached, and within about 6 they felt comfortable enough to approach me, considering I was dead still and silent, but still. They LOOOVE cuddles and pets, and sometimes when I don't give them a treat or pet them when they want it, they gain an attitude and sass me for the rest of the day LMAO.
Despite being super curious, and a lot more brave than the other bunny, this bunny is SUPER fast to run away if they feel threatened. The other day, I was stupid enough to open a trash bag too close to my door, and the loud sound of me shaking it open scared them to DEATH. They started FREAKING OUT and running around, and they somehow ended up JUMPING THROUGH THE BARS OF THEIR PLAYPEN. THEY'RE BIGGER THAN THE BARS. HOW DID THEY DO THAT. WHAT THE HEAK. They haven't done it since, considering they haven't been scared enough to reach the speed needed to force their way through, but that was definitely a shock.
My other bunny is actually the polar opposite of the other, and I think thats awesome!!
^A photo taken exactly 10 minutes ago for this blog, they didn't run from me because I took it through the bars, a good sign that they're getting more comfortable!!!!! (especially considering they're laying down!!)
I had originally planned on only getting one bunny, but this bun eventually wandered over to me, and when i put them on my lap to pet them they immediately POOPED ON ME. So I was like, poo now I have to get this one too. I should've taken that as a warning however, because this dude poops EVERYWHERE. The other bun is already almost fully litter box trained, but this one... god... its everywhere. They somehow manage to get it OUTSIDE OF THEIR HUTCH AND ONTO MY FLOOR. I DON'T KNOW HOW THEY DO IT... They've recently been much better about using their litter box after I moved it, so it isn't as bas anymore, but god those first few days were hellish I tell you. Now, a healthy bunny poos about 200-300 times per day on average, so the amount of poo isn't the problem, because my other bun does the same (just mostly in their litter box)- the problem is that the bun CAN'T PICK A DAMN SPOT TO POOP IN. Bunnies are very clean animals, and they'll pick a spot where they'll poop/pee, and thats where you place their litter box. but this dude... its everywhere... I can't escape it...
When they're not pooping, they're usually resting. They enjoy blankets and comfort more than physical activity, hence why they got the hutch, and they honestly spend 80% of their time (from what I've seen) inside the house part of their hutch. They're a lot more skittish than the other bun, and so I haven't really spent much time with them unfortunately. I've found that the best way to get them to come to me so I can bond with them is by giving them an offering, like a toy or a treat, sometimes some fresh hay. They also really like to stare at me when I'm on my bed (they're doing it as I'm typing it out), but whenever I go over to say hi they run away, so I guess they prefer to just observe me.
They took a lot longer than their littermate to get used to their new home, and they've just now really settled in, which is probably why they're less social with me. Hopefully as they get more and more accustomed to life here they'll be more open to bonding with me. One thing about me is that I will NEVER make the bunnies do anything that they don't wanna do, unless its like go to the vet or something. Bonding with me will be on their terms, and if they don't wanna see me or interact with me, then they wont.
I've only had them for a little over a week, and I'm definitely not the best bunny mama in the world, but I love them SOOOO much and I hope they'll learn to love me too someday!! I mean, I'll have them for another 12 years.
As a bonus, here's my sisters puppy, Winston. He's a 4 month old cavapoo <3

The idea was to keep it in my room but since I share my room with my sis I don't think she'd like it since they're pretty loud at nights, guess i'll have to convince her too lol. I liked the powerpoint idea so I might use it thxxxxxx
