Why is the sky blue?

The sky appears blue because when sunlight enters Earth's atmosphere, the shorter wavelengths of blue light are scattered more readily by air molecules than longer wavelengths, causing the blue light to be dispersed throughout the sky, making it the dominant color we see; this process is called Rayleigh scattering
