Alan Wake 2 Update Brings Quality-of-Life Improvements and PS5 Pro Enhancements

Remedy Entertainment has rolled out a new update for Alan Wake 2, introducing quality-of-life improvements and visual enhancements. This update, now available, aims to refine the gameplay experience for players across all platforms, with significant upgrades for PlayStation 5 Pro users.

Released in October 2023, Alan Wake 2 is a psychological survival horror game and a sequel to its 2010 predecessor. The game follows two protagonists, Alan Wake and Saga Anderson, as they confront supernatural forces. Widely acclaimed for its unsettling atmosphere and gripping narrative, Alan Wake 2 earned multiple Game of the Year awards and became Remedy Entertainment’s fastest-selling title.

More than a year since its launch, Alan Wake 2 continues to receive updates to enhance the player experience. The 1.2.7 update brings several improvements, particularly optimizing the game for PS5 Pro. A new “Balanced” graphics mode has been added, combining the visual fidelity of the Quality mode, including ray tracing, with the resolution settings of the Performance mode. Both Performance and Quality modes also received adjustments to improve frame rate stability and reduce visual noise. Additionally, players can now enable or disable PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR).

Beyond visual upgrades, the update addresses minor gameplay issues, notably in the Lake House expansion. This DLC, considered one of 2024’s best, follows FBC Agent Kiran Estevez as she investigates the Lake House, a secret facility where experiments have gone awry. The expansion introduces a fresh narrative, new settings, and additional enemies called “The Painted,” shadowy figures impervious to light or bullets.

Alan Wake 2 is not the only title benefiting from PS5 Pro optimizations. Over 50 games have been updated to leverage the console’s enhanced capabilities. Among them is Black Myth: Wukong, the Game of the Year winner, which recently received a PS5 Pro update, allowing players to enjoy improved graphics and frame rates while battling their foes.
