For the longest, I've always considered blink-182 to be my all time favorite band ever, and for good reason, too. They have a plethora of albums with always something different to make each one unique. Of course, you can only listen to the same damn band everyday before you start wanting something different, so I started listening to other bands and artists. I got into a lot of good bands and artists this year, liked Scooped Up, Cheerleader Roadkill, Wreckage, Broken Demeanor, etc. At the same time, i got back into other ones this year too, including The Queers, yungatita, twikipedia, Mike Krol, Twenty One Pilots, etc.
However... thanks to a real good friend of mine.. there is.. one particular New Yorker I really got into. he's been moving up my list of favorite bands/artists, and I haven't even been listening to him for long. That guy is.. you guessed it.
JEFF ROSENSTOCK!!!
(AKA Death Rosenstock when he plays with his band)
Jeffrey Ernest Rosenstock, age 42, has been playing music since 1995, and has played in multiple bands, one of his most known being the ska punk band Bomb The Music Industry!, a band known for it's heavily DIY ethics and commitment to accessibility, even founding the first Donation Based website, Quote Unquote Records, where you can download Jeff's music for free, alongside other bands and artists (including B.T.M.I!)! Bomb The Music Industry! ran from 2004-2014, Jeff has been continuing his solo career ever since. He's a real punk rocker, multi instrumentalist, musical genius, and worth your time. As my friend Nate describes to be, he's a "punk that makes pop punk music," with a majority of his music having some pretty damn punk lyrics, tackling anything from how greedy corporations are making people who try to fight against the system lose hope because all these corporations have grown to basically rule said system to how hard it is to peacefully protest when you watch unjust actions unfold in front of you. Despite how depressing his lyrics can get, Jeff overall gives off positive energy, with energetic and fun shows, music videos, and even good vibes in the music he makes. A great example of "when you're happy, you enjoy the music, but when you're sad, you understand the lyrics."
Ever since I started listening to Jeff, I've had a random boost of happiness and confidence. I'm still not very confident, nor am I extremely happy, but I've felt better ever since I started listening to him. Jeff Rosenstock is undoubtedly one of the best pop punk artists I've ever listened to. If you're a fan of ska punk and pop punk, he's right up your alley. I recommend starting with his albums WORRY and HELLMODE. he doesn't really have any bad albums, he never misses, but those two are certainly his best. Whether you're a teenager like me, or a grown adult, Jeff Rosenstock can be a total life changer for you. I hope this post reaches the right people! thank you for reading and have an amazing day/afternoon/night.
