★★★½
i really like the vocals, julie and whoever the other guy is (there's 2 and idk which one it is) sound great together. this is a very raw - it's warm and intimate. it has that diy basement feel to it, to a point where at times it almost felt like i was in a basement with them listening to them record.
for people currently going through seasonal depression that really want to make it worse

The Narcotic Story - Oxbow | 2007
★★★★
i've now heard all but 2 oxbow albums. i generally haven't been as much of a fan of their earlier, noisier origins compared to the much less abstract art rock turn they started to take with The Narcotic Story. i haven't disliked anything i've heard, per se, but they reach much higher highs with this sound. this album sounds like the natural barrier between An Evil Heat and Thin Black Duke. The Narcotic Story is still noisy and dissonant but oxbow have definitely cleaned themselves up here, and in my opinion it is to their benefit. i'm pretty sure this is a concept album but i have a final today (12/17) i am not listening to lyrics. maybe with time i'll grow to love this as much as Thin Black Duke but right now i'm settling on Pretty Fucking Good™. eugene robinson i love you

noise pop | indietronica | power pop
★★★
i used to be very into vocaloid in like. 5th grade. so this was a cool throwback moment for me. but the key words there are "used to". i have no strong feelings towards this. clearly this artist knows what they're doing and i can hear little hints of really good songs in there but then meme samples get thrown at me and it's like. cmon man (cough cough 120% get it together). the instrumentals are well done but i'm just not a huge fan of the vocals, i never really liked how the english vocaloids sounded.
if you like vocaloid you'll like this probably

Blur - Blur | 1997
★★★★
i really do not listen to this album enough considering how many of my favorite blur songs are on here. blur finally started to stray away from their britpop origins with their self-titled, and i think it was to their benefit. blur embraces a much more american sound here, which evidently worked because i'm still hearing Song 2 in applebee's ads. this was their most "experimental" effort at the time, and while there may be some duller moments (Themes From Retro woah who said that) there's also some of their best in Beetlebum, Strange News From Another Star, and You're So Great, in which graham coxon takes charge for the first time in the band's history (that i can think of rn). the main criticism and really that i have is that the more experimental moments do clash a bit with the american grunge imitation sound of the rest, but it's a minor issue with how little i feel the desire to listen to this in full.
for people who were really into gorillaz at some point and now think young damon albarn is the hottest man to ever live (true!)
