I
can't believe the semester is finally over, but here I am on Sunday,
12/15/2024 having just completed my 1st semester of college. :)
I
have over a month off before I start the spring semester on Monday,
2/10/2025 and already have some plans for filling in some of that time I
have off such as volunteering, burning some blank CDs and DVDs, taking another trip down to Knott's
Berry Farm for the day (hopefully they'll have the 2025 season
refillable cups by the time I go there in January, as I plan on making
the most out of my season pass and making more trips down there within
the year during weekends and breaks), playing some old web games on Flashpoint and in the Pale Moon browser (with the last version of the Adobe Flash Player released before the kill switch, version 32.0.0.371, installed), going down to my local video store to return and rent some
DVD movies as I have been since November of this year, and perhaps
visiting my local city's library and getting a library card from there.
I'm excited for the spring semester as all 5 of my classes will be in
person and I won't have any stupid online classes in the upcoming
semester (which is especially important for the art classes I'm taking
for my major). I'm also hoping I'll be able to meet up with some of my
friends during my break.
Additionally,
I now have more time to work on my personal drawings and other things
like bracelet making and sewing (and perhaps I could possibly make my
own custom low rise skirt once I become confident enough in my ability
to do so).
I'm
excited for Christmas, especially since one of the things I'll be
getting for Christmas is the complete season 6 of Degrassi: The Next
Generation on DVD as a little present to myself. I showed my mother the
package when it arrived a few weeks ago and she told me that she would
sometimes watch it around the time I was born (as a little side note, I
seriously wonder what other shows from The N she's watched or at least
heard of without ever thinking of telling her 2000s obsessed daughter
before). I chose season 6 in particular because of that one episode
named after a Taking Back Sunday song, although I may just as well have
to purchase copies of the other seasons of the show at some point, at
least the ones that came out circa 2001 - 2009 or so anyways (season 6
is from 2007 in case you were wondering).
Am
I excited for what the new year has to bring in terms of general events
and culture (aside from When We Were Young Fest and possibly even Warped Tour's return)? Not at all, even less so than I have been for the past few
years now, but this time, I have even more fear and dread of the
negative changes my country is expected to go through in the coming year
between the orange Cheeto being put back into office with no checks and
balances this time around, stores possibly not accepting cold hard cash
if there's enough damage to a dollar bill (read more about it here in case you haven't heard about the new law regarding "mutilated" bills),
or with Knott's Berry Farm discontinuing their physical season pass
cards (although I have a plan to get around that issue that doesn't
involve completely selling my soul to the stupid modern world I'm stuck
in). This of course is already on top of my seething HATRED of today's overall contemporary culture and the problems that's already been causing for me, of course. However, in spite of my fears and resentfulness, I'm going to try
and ignore most of the modern world as I have been doing since 2021 and
fight for the rights of myself and others. For the sake of my own
sanity, I think it's important that I try not to focus too much on these
terrible things knowing already what sort of complete abyss my own
brain can send me into and how long it can take to climb back out of the
pit. I'm trying to focus on the good things like my art skills
improving, the fact that I can finally rent movies for the week like
people did in the 2000s, spending more time with friends and making new
ones, the possibility of getting a summer internship, the possibility of
spending my 19th birthday at Knott's Berry Farm, the freedoms that come
with finally being an adult that I used to merely just daydream about
as a child/teen, etc.
But yeah, I'm going to try and make the most out of my time off given how long of a break I have this time around. This will be the longest winter break I've ever had so far, as I've only gotten 2 weeks off for winter break from 1st - 12th grade (3 weeks when I was in kindergarten in another school district before my family and I moved a town away right before I started the 1st grade). I'm just waiting for my professors from this semester to finalize grades (I'm pretty sure I'll be getting mostly Bs, maybe one A, and possibly one C for the fall 2024 semester). I've learned quite a lot in these past few months and have been enjoying my college experience so far, as well as gaining some independence and taking advantage of opportunities that I've never gotten to experience prior to August of this year both between turning 18 and starting my first semester of college within that month. :)
Anyone else plan on doing anything interesting/exciting for their winter break?
