i really like playing modded minecraft in multiplayer if your computers can handle it that is a super fun option
if on a switch or something else try stardew valley or mario kart (i know these are very like mainstream but theyre really fun especially modded)
terraria is another fun one if youre okay with raging a little bit
as for free games:
unturned on steam
if you have windows computers minecraft PE might come with it
fortnite is boring after a while but fun at first with friends lololol i play no build mode and it makes it better
