How to care for Hissing Cockroaches

Absolutely random entry,but as a proud owner of those silly creatures im more than happy to share some care stuff about them

They're one of the biggest cockroaches - so they will need some space to live. They need to feel safe and have a place where they can hide - I use a terrarium with dimensions 40x30x40cm

Of course if you have more of those babies you will need a bigger terrarium bc one single critter can be 8cm long!

at the bottom of the container I put a couple of cardboard extrusions, then covering them with peat and coconut substrate. You can also use:bamboo, bark and Cork

{the extrusions are so that the carcasses can hide in their recesses}

But remember,they cant have too many hideouts as it will be hard to find them

the soil should be moist, and the overall humidity in the terrarium should be about 50-80%, which means daily spraying

TEMPERATURE

Temperature should be around 26-30C! personally, I use a heating mat with the right temperature set. The temperature also affects their reproduction.

In nature,they only live  in Madagaskar

They're active mostly at night and sometimes when light isnt too strong

light is not so important for breeding, but I leave them slightly dimmed for their comfort

The larva grows from approx. 6-12 months and adult lives for  6-8 months

FEEDING

they can eat both wet and dry food.

to wet food  belong

fruit

carrot tart

dandelion leaves

chicory

Peking cabbage

herbs

to dry food include

oat flakes

breadcrumbs

food for fish

for a change, you can serve pieces of meat

Cockroaches are actually very clean animals,they wont eat rotten or not-fresh food. Fruits can be their source of water but you can also give them special hydrogel or small,shallow container w fresh water.

Give them FRESH food and water EVERYDAY

These silly critters can make VERY loud noises. Their hiss {used to scare away any dangers} can reach 90 decibels and they can be heard at distance of 3.6 meters

HISSING COCKROACHES CAN NOT HURT HUMANS. THEY DONT BITE OR STING {and they dont fly}

Here im leaving a link for a bit more detailed article about my beloved animals. :
