at the end of november, on a trip to london with my family, we visited the postal museum. absolutely 10/10 museum, if you ever have chance to go, i would totally recommend it. it was a fun few hours and (i feel like) we learnt quite a bit about the history of the royal mail/the postal service as a whole in the u.k. :D
as part of your ticket at the postal museum, you get a free ride on the 'mail rail' - an underground rail system which was created in 1923 as a way to transport letters and other postal items around london. it was able to go from one end of london to the other in fifteen minutes! sadly, the mail rail stopped operating in 2003 due to the rise in social media and other, more efficient forms of communication. i almost started crying at one point on the mail rail because i started thinking about how written communication is a dying art and how i don't think i've ever received an actual handwritten letter, so i bought a letter writing set from the giftshop (and pillar box stickers, and a pillar box stuffed animal) only to promptly realise that i don't actually have anyone to send letters to (i have about three friends irl and i don't think any of them would share letters with me...)
i thought about maybe finding a penpal but a.) i don't have much interesting to write in a full letter for a person who doesn't know me and b.) i don't know how to make things aesthetic and i don't want to upset someone with my ugly letter.
but then there's also something i found recently called 'postcrossing', which is sending postcards to people around the world rather than full letters. i think this would be interesting, and maybe wouldn't put so much pressure on me to fill a whole page or worry about making it perfect.
the only thing i'm worried about though is having to submit my address to something to be sent to other people, but i suppose it's a safe website if other people are doing it, right?
i might have a think about it over christmas and make my decision in time for the new year. it might be fun :)

I've always wanted a penpal as well but I'm super suspicious of just handing my address out (and I also would probably have bad looking letters lol) Maybe a p.o box would be good? ... I don't know how much one costs (#・∀・)
I've never heard of the postcard thing, it sounds super interesting! I'll have to look into it ( ´∀` )b
i was thinking about looking into a p.o. box but just for penpals etc i'm not sure if it would be worth it or not.. :/
and yeah, i just learnt about it like a week ago and it seems pretty cool!! they have a website where u can learn about it and that's where u sign up to get an address to send cards to :) (i think it's just postcrossing.com?) it looks like a lot of fun but like i said, i'm probably going to look more into it and think about if i'd actually do it or if it'll just be something i'll do for a few weeks before forgetting about it hehe
