Reaching Goals

When I think back on the things I've always wanted to do, I accomplished pretty much everything I've ever wanted to do. A lot of those things really weren't what I thought they would be. Like being a game developer. I made some games and worked in a team with some people and at some point, that was a BIG goal I had in my life. But, once I actually did it, it really lost its charm and I was just done with it. It was fun for a while at least.

So I moved on to the next thing. Something I had been working towards my whole life. I always wanted to teach martial arts. I rented a small place, got all the gear like mats and pads and gloves and all that, and I opened up my own martial arts place. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of stress with things like legal stuff, paperwork, and especially paying the rent for the place. The worst part was seeing people come for a while then quit to follow some other hobby or something. Which is fine, but I was really hoping for students who would be dedicated. After accomplishing that goal, I realized it wasn't what I was hoping for. I moved on.

This same sort of thing happened in my tech career too. I was a multifaceted tech guru until I realized how no one gives a shit about your skills or how much money you've saved the company before. They want you to be their slave and work for shit pay while constantly giving them more and more and more until you're just living at the office and missing everything with your family. Fuck that!

Now I kind of feel like I don't have any big life goals anymore. I wish I still had some big life goals. Something to pursue and work towards. I feel a little lost without having something like that. I would almost say don't bother actually achieving your goals so you can keep some mystery and desire in your life and keep something to work towards.

But I won't say that. I think the greatest goal I have ever achieved has been making a family of my own. My life goals now are all about making the best life I can for my children. I've been teaching my son martial arts and we're having a great time of it! Helping the kiddos with schoolwork, teaching them about life, learning about their interests and pursuing those interests with them are super fun. So now I have goals that I know are actually worth a damn because they involve the people I love most in my life.

This was really inspiring to read, and also touching, insightful, etc.. (all the good synonyms, lol)

Makes you really think about what's important in life. YOU'RE STILL A BADASS FOR HAVING ACCOMPLISHED ALL THAT THOUGH. Thank you for sharing and imparting your wisdom on us :)
