My Boy - Twin Fantasy (lyric analysis)

My Boy

Lyrics:

" My boy, we don't see each other much

My boy, we don't see each other much

It'll take some time

But somewhere down the line

We won't be alone

My boy, we don't see each other much

My boy, we don't see each other much

It'll take some time

But somewhere down the line

We won't be alone

My boy, we don't see each other much

My boy, we don't see each other much

It'll take some time

But somewhere down the line

We won't be- "

this song is the first in twin fantasy although the lyrics repeat they carry a lot of meaning. toledo sets up the relationship calling his lover "my boy" he says "we dont see each other much" and mentions how they are both alone. now at first this might seem like very obviously describing a long distance relationship but personally i think that really what he is describing here is being closeted, and how isolating being queer can be. He has to sneak around his closest people to see who he loves. toledo then goes on to sing "but somewhere down the line / we wont be alone" which is him being hopeful, one day they can be out and open and the world will be ready for them, they wont be alone, they wont be closested, they wont be frowned upon. which is very real for many queer people (including me). although in the last line, i think its very important that he doesnt finish, it shows his doubt about how this might never end.
