When my sister sent me this site, I immediately fell in love. Spacehey brought me back to a simpler time, a time where I was more worried about how my layout looked than what was going on in the world. It reminded me of Xanga, Fanfiction.net, Fictionpress, and who was in my top 8.
What has the 2020/2021 pandemic shown me so far? I have slipped into my comfort nostalgia items like punk rock, gothic music, and writing. These are things that I used during my childhood to help cope with the trauma that I was dealing with. I hear this question come up time and time again from folks older or younger than me: What's with all the nostalgia?
Nostalgia, at least for me, has been something that has helped me navigate unclear waters. Listening to old music while working from home has helped bring my stress level down. Instead of worrying about what will I do if I get COVID or what will I do if I get sick, I could instead listen to music that has comforted me my entire life.
Is it the best way to deal with unprecedented times? Probably not. Has it helped me keep my sanity? Absolutely. Try pulling up an old show, book, or something from your childhood next time you feel stressed.
