sometimes i see ppl say stuff like "If you do it your gay" "thats so gay" and stuff like that, using gay as like...a joke
i dont actually care that much lol because IM SOMEONE WHO DOES THAT. but theres something i saw recently that kinda made me think
a lot of people who are disabled get upset when people overuse Aucoustic / tism and use it in a joking manner. i understand why...but..why dont gay people feel the same for "Thats so gay!!" ?
like, im in the lgbtq, and im not offended by that, its supposed to be funny! and sure, maybe it started as a genuine insult towards the community, but if we take whats an insult and reverse its term so its no longer harmful, shouldn't that be a good thing? people kinda just say it as a joke, along with acoustic
is it just me, or i dont get it... they're the same? why is aucoustic bad but "Ur gay" isnt?

from my perspective as a lesbian who happens to be a diagnosed autistic, there's a big difference between being born gay and being born with a mental disorder. being honest, saying "that's so gay" isn't good either- you're still making fun of someone for something they can't control. however, the phrase has been reclaimed much more than things like "is he acoustic?" when people say things like that, it implies that something the person is doing is "weird" and should be pointed out and mocked. i call myself acoustic sometimes, but not other people/things, yk? i also think that the phrase itself along with "tism" sounds a bit infantilazing and even dehumanizing at times. i've seen sooo many people say "is it acoustic?" which has the implication that they're not human. in my opinion, i don't think either are good to say, but the gay version has been sort of reclaimed while the autism one was basically taken from autistics and turned into something more hurtful by neurotypicals. hopefully this made sense, i'm not the greatest at explaining LOL!

admittedly i do say both, but i never understood why one was hated on more than the other, but the way u said it made it seem easier to understand lol, ur rite :3
