Responding to violence with violence is 100% warranted when the people in power do not care about you. They’re not afraid to step all over you. People ARE out to get us. Homophobia is still very much a problem. Homophobia didn’t end when same sex marriage was legalized in the US. Just because there’s hate crime laws for trans and gay people doesn’t mean that those crimes aren’t still committed. That paranoia that queer folks have is to be expected when Trump’s people are talking about eradicating trans folks and the like.
