On first appointment as a courtesy aide

Right now, I’m on my first ever appointment as a courtesy aide/nurse’s aide! I’m with a resident who is 101. Wow. I was sitting for another resident when a nurse came in to pull me out. She said the resident was 101. I was thinking of the other resident who is 101. I saw her when I did my clinicals here. She was bedridden and would constantly say, “help me, baby, help me…” It’s another resident who’s 101. So sweet, still has her wits.

BTW, when I say appointment I mean I tag along with a resident when they need to tend to their appointments in their hospitals. I hadn’t realized courtesy aides could go on them a few weeks ago. I was like whaaaaat? The other courtesy aide I got hired witth had been going on them. Today’s my day to shine lolz

Omg, can you imagine living to 100? Working with the elderly kind of changes my perspective on things. Naw I’ve felt this way for a long time.

When I was a stupid brat 11-year-old, I thought 65 was OLD. But nope, I think that’s pretty YOUNG. Hearing someone dying in their sixties makes me sad. Sometimes it’s a good thing if their minds are not there and their bodies aren’t, either. I’m just talking about sixty year olds in general. Well the average American life span is 77 so I’m being dramatic there…

Agh, it’s so cool. I follow two ladies on Tik Tok… daughter of a 60-something-year-old woman and a daughter of a 102-year-old woman respectively. The woman in her sixties has dementia while the 100-year-old still has her mind intact.

I hate to sound blunt and rude so I’m very cautious of how I speak to people. Point of this post? Just to reflect on life, really. Every day is a blessing, keep pushing forward. Live and reach ages and milestones. Life is a gift, really!

I love being here and I’m motivated to work hard to make these residents’ lives easier! I LOVE ELDERLY PEOPLE. So MUCH. So now I’m going to finish this post off with squealing over someone. My dad’s wife’s mother. I LOVE HER. Idk she’s just so ENDEARING. The show Pen15. Freaking love it. Two best friends who met later in life acting as their 13-year-old selves. One of them has her actual mother playing as her mother. My dad’s wife’s mother is white but she resembles her mom to a certain degree. So when I watch the show, I’m reminded of her! I aspire to be as nice and sweet as these lovely folks!
