Are the kids here alright?

This is not just a Spacehey only phenomenon but I have noticed an alarming amount of profile bios and introduction blogs listing things like triggers, mental health problems and other such things that a stranger online should not know about you.

These are mostly made by minors which only makes the situations worse. Stating that you are hypers*xual and then adding "18+ do not interact" after that will not stop weird people (18+ or under) from taking advantage of that knowledge.

By listing things that trigger you will not just inform other so they can avoid those, it makes you vulnerable to people who will use them against you.

Remember that things related to you and your mental health are nobody's business but yours. You do not have to list thing so personal like your health as if they are personality traits. Remember: mental illness is not "cute" or "aesthetic".

I really really hope with all my heart that no one will get groomed here because of things like this. Please practice basic internet safety.

If you see yourself in this, please do not be offended or call me preachy. I am a minor myself and I just want to look out for people my age and younger who have not been taught how to safely use the internet.

Lastly I just want to state that I do not blame kids who get taken advantage of in the internet! It is entirely the fault of the adult.

I am sure someone has had to make a blog post similar to this but you cannot stress this enough!

I feel like as a collective society, sharing private information on the internet has become a lot more normalized than it was before covid/quarantine. This mostly applies to mental health and people venting their problems to the public. While this helped mental health be less stigmatized, it also kind of did the opposite too

That is also true.

I fear I am be in enemy territory but from my perspective, I list my disorders because they tend to impact my friendships and I want people to know what they're getting into before deciding to talk to me or not. I've seen people on here diagnosing themselves and putting it out there that they have super rare mental disorders and such and then changing the disorders every few weeks, or individuals who list the longest list of triggers you've ever seen to be quirky or cute. I might be in the wrong here, honestly, seeing as though I myself AM a minor and list my mental disorders on page but I do it strictly because I am diagnosed and said mental disorders tend to effect friendships.

No no, you are not in the enemy territory! I totally get your reasoning o(*°▽°*)o. As you also pointed out, the problem is the people treating mental illness as a quirky thing or carelessly throwing around information. Your disorders affecting your friendships is a totally valid reason!

Totally agree!!! I've seen too many blogs and profiles of minors that list very personal things like mental illness, emotional problems and very specific situations of vulnerability that in the knowledge of a malicious stranger can take advantage to grooming/extortion or something gross and terrible. Kids please take note of the things on this blog and stay safe!!! and be careful online with so many anonymous users who can be your next friend or a monster.
