I miss when dark and offensive humor was everywhere

Offensive shit, dark humor, gross depictions of gore, all that jazz. The humor you hear from sites like The Hard Times and other punk websites that have this "not giving a fuck attitude" but they're punk so they actually do in fact give a fuck and are willing to stop when it's genuinely harmful or unconsented.

Like the case with Newgrounds. People act like Newgrounds becoming "Politically Correct" (I use this term with care because to be honest, it's misused by a lot of actual bigots as well nowadays) is a good thing, but to me, it feels like it's lost what originally made it fun to explore back in the day. Sure, it's gained life with a completely different demographic of people, but I grew up with the original demographic. I just like seeing communities where in humor, nothing is sacred, but nobody's being actively harmed. A way to blow off steam or cope with trauma through harmless edgy fun.

It's like seeing your favorite rapper go from making offensive, social commentary filled, disrepectful gang rap to mainstream, radio friendly party trap. It's not bad or worse in an objective sense, but it has you feeling depressed as fuck clinging onto the past. You accept and respect the rapper for asserting his creative freedom and shifts, even feel happy for him about that , but you can't help but feel a little bummed about it knowing he's not the same.

I digress, I just wish I could find another community of likeminded people who don't mind getting as gross and unkempt in terms of humor while understanding it's just fiction, it's just for blowing off steam and not genuinely targeted to any specific persons and with no intent to harm. If anyone reading this has some reccomendations for safe communities of this type, I'd be interested in joining.

I know it's weird hearing this from a person like me of all things, the kind of person you'd expect to be your "average sjw tumblr user" in the eyes of dark humor posers who act edgy not because they genuinely care about the philosophy of using art and words to explore the gutters of humanity without causing real harm, but because they wanna seem cool and strong (retards.)

You know, non-white, has a cutesy aesthetic, survivor of lots of fucked up trauma I will not mention here, biological female, diagnosed autistic, pro-lgbtq+, advocate for gender egalitarianism, all that knick paddy wack bullshit. But I've never touched tumblr in my life and have come to surprise some of those edgy posers with how 3-dimensional dark comedy can actually be if you truly pay attention.

People act like any media that's dark in themes, even offensive is horrible, and worthy of a cancel or even a death sentence, but coming from a girl with literal RSD (I overreact to a lot), I think that's a HUGE overreaction. To me, dark humor depends on the creator and how it's executed.

I can't trust an scummy asshole like Sh*dman because he's genuinely a fucked up piece of dogshit and that's putting it lightly considering he's a member of the kind of people who had traumatized me as a child (You know what it is). What he draws is often not that funny. It just comes off like he's genuinely gooning off of that shit, of which is confirmed he is.

But other artists such as myself and a lot of my friends are none of that. We create and draw offensive shit, but not genuinely because we fetishize it or find it fun, but to sort of explore and criticize the complexity of the human capability to create such issues. I draw art of my trauma, but in a form that sexualizes the male perpetrator, in a bet of reclaiming. It's my own way of saying "fuck you" to the oppressive gender roles I have been forced to suffer the consequences of, by sexualizing the men who want ME to be the sexy one. Like "No, creep, you do it. I'm not entertaining you, you're the one forcing me to fuck you so you could at least try to make yourself sexually appealing to me if you want it so bad". That is an example in my case. It's basically why I don't feel horny when I draw men in such a way but just calm, accomplished and even euphoric. In a way I can't explain. Like a weight has been lifted off of me.

I don't know if you know, but a lot of the subject matter that dark humor touches upon is almost always man-made. Sexism, racism, anger-driven violence, all that shit is man-made. If humans didn't have the emotional or cognitive capacity that differentiates us from wild animals, we'd just be killing for survival with no genuine emotional reasoning for it. So to conserve energy in dire times especially, if we saw no need to kill, we wouldn't kill at all.

That's kind of a philosophy I see in dark humor, which is why I find it so beautiful and participate in it. Freely exploring and exposing the pure lack of reasoning for how humans think and work to the point such fucked up behaviors spark within us as a species.

TLDR: Dark humor go brrrr (No I'm not summarizing it for you, son. Go do your homework lol)

Some “dark humor” according to nowadays people (especially the majority of Gen Z and Alpha) feels like a double-edged sword. Sometimes they would laugh at you for being concerned or too much criticize their humor, and sometimes they would get mad at you for preferring anything but their “so-called based” dark humor (repetitive 911, funny mustache man, and more . . .). Anything in here I mean almost anything they can turn as laughable material for their jokes, and sometimes propaganda/indoctrination fuel for their own ideas (which ended with literal sexism, extreme racism, or crazy binary fallacy).

P.S
With this kind of downgrade humor, there's not much different with what happened many years ago during the peak of Cold War and more since the last 2 great war.

Thank you for this!!!
Even I'm not a fan of edgylord, but it's sad to see dark humour becomes rare on current era, most of "dark" humour I saw on modern internet is just dumb edgylord topics like 911 etc. Maybe I just live under of a rock, I wish there's more media has satire tropes like spongebob etc. For me, dark humour about social problems is like an escape of reality, but instead of fictional fantasy, it's feels like watching an alternative reality and laugh, humours like this give me small inspiration to draw, but mostly in my mind because I'm worrying if my drawings offend anyone after I finish it.

I also like the dark and offensive type of humor, even though I'm part of (several) minority groups. While I'm glad for the general acceptance of differences in modern social media, I feel like the corporate drive to be a safe, clean internet is a key factor in why (almost) every site sucks now. When it comes to offensive humor nowadays, a lot of people care more about the offensive part than the humor. You see the same jokes over and over again with very little nuance, and they're often just a mouthpiece for the creator. You're either a sensitive doormat with a DNI list as large as the bible, or an easily offended asshole with no real backbone. I miss the anarchy/rebellious nature of the old internet, despite it's risk. As for recommendations, try Agora's Macintosh Cafe. It might be what you're looking for.

Agora's Macintosh Cafe? Never heard of it. Can you give me a rundown of what it's like?

Pretty much just a retro-based forum like melonland, inspired by vaporwave. Haven't used it much to give a completely accurate description, but the best I can compare it to is the SomethingAwful forums with less of the shock value.

Hmmm, idk, the people on Reddit are saying it's full of genuine neonazis... I want to be around people who say offensive shit ironically, as a genuine joke, not because they genuinely believe it or they're trying to vent their opinions.

Make your own community that allows that. (And don't let censorship-happy people in it.)

I should add that communities with edgy humor in them still exist.

4chan.org is the most popular. (Though it IS run by the feds, if that concerns you at all)

I've heard some horror stories about 4chan, so I'm not too sure...

so fucking real, i wish there was like an inbetween of communities of people who like dark humor and people who arent horrible people, it seems like everyones either a disgusting asshole who thinks saying something offensive counts as a joke or those mfs that make twitter degenerates go crazy. i recently became hyperfixated with hotdiggedydemon again after like 10 years but im scared to share that interest with people i know bc theres people who dont like him bc he was offensive once, and theres people who hate him bc they think he's too soft now. and i feel the same about newgrounds, it feels so dry now on there bc like everyone has that one typa humor on there and it doesnt feel like the same site that it was. idk if thats just an autistic thing w/ not being able 2 handle changes n shit but yeah something aint right lol
