Rook Is Closing Down.

Well, Rook, an app that I like using to meet people to write or RP with, is shutting down. It's technically still up, but in a month, it'll be closed.

It was an app made to meet people who write and roleplay. While my glory days of writing absolute bangers that no one will ever read are behind me, I still frequented this app. Since I first installed it, I never outright deleted it. I took breaks that lasted several months and did reinstall it once, when I got a new phone, but I never got rid of it. And now, it's doing that for me.

Why did I use it if I didn't write anymore? Simple. People posted there, and it was very easy to talk to strangers. It had a kind of "Post Collective" where all the recent posts made on the site were always listed.

Imagine the Blog tab on SpaceHey, sorted by Recent Entries, but a lot more accessible. It was the main feature of the site. The main difference between that and SpaceHey's Blogs is that you didn't really need to commit to picking a subject and category. I could just post "Gott DAYUM I'm hongree" and boom, there it was, for everyone to see. I met a lot of cool people and had a lot of cool conversations this way.

Plus it was amazing for shitposting.

"Computer, put on Parappa the Rapper 2 instrumentals... unironically."

It was basically Twitter if you saw everyone's posts all at once and images and links weren't allowed. Pretty cool.

Now, despite my rave review of the app, I think it's a good thing that it's gone. It was a den of scum and villainy. Most of the posts were people asking to write about very adult topics, often with extremely strange and often morally dubious content and tags. I mean, a lot of roleplay on the internet is erotic in nature, fair, but there were a ton of minors present, and you know how that can get. Not to mention all the scammers and bots, too.

Still, it was cool to find a diamond in the rough. Meeting someone who can tell you their entire life story right there and then. I met people I'd call for hours at a time. New gaming friends. Hot chicks. It was heaven for a person like me, someone who adores meeting strangers.

Rook was a No Man's Land of people who are typically terminally online, and those are my people.

At least I have this place, even if it's not nearly as fun to use on my phone.
