The idea of demons still instills a sense of dread in many people.
This fear of demons can be attributed to a variety of factors, from cultural and religious influences, to individual experiences and world-view. As a result, the idea of demons continues to have a significant impact on the collective conciousness.
The word demon is a bastardization of the greek word daemon or daemon [δαίμων]. The daemon was thought to be more cthonic. The daemon itself held both the dual nature of both positive and negative: neutral. While evil spirits were clled kakodaimon [κακοδαίμων]. When Zoroastrianism came into contact with early judaism, the concept of evil was adopted so the deities of bervy religions were not worshipped, by that means; 'demonizing' them into a new category.
